      Advantages

      Disadvantages

There really is only one way to prepare stock, and that it to make it yourself. Why don't I ever learn? I go into the supermarket hungry and end up buying rubbish that I will never use, or find inferior. Kallo Salt Cubes, sorry Kallo Just Bouillon! is a crazy product, that no one could possibly really like. All it is is SALT, with a hint of the cheapest herbs they can lay their hands on to make maximum profits out of a lousy product. I'm only writing this review out of annoyance for all the clearly fake reviews that have been posted around the net regarding this product. AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL. My dogs enjoyed chewing the box, so at least I got some value from them.

      Disadvantages

      Avoid completely

I agree with the previous review of Just Bouillon Gravy Granules. 'Disgusting slop' sums it up well. I'm a long time Bisto original fan - used with the meat juices and vegetable water, perfect. But my girl friend has never liked Bisto, so I thought I'd try Just Bouillon's version. Their stock cubes are OK and ingredients don't have MSG etc.

There is no way the result can be called gravy, it tasted (and smelt) so unpleasant, we threw it away and had our lamb chops without any gravy.
I wrote, in more moderate terms, to Kallo consumer services to tell them how disappointed I was. It was a short and clear email, and included the expiry date and code from the lid and ended with my full name and address

They replied saying before they could investigate they would need the expiry date and code from the lid and my address!

I told them to 'see my original email below' and have heard nothing more.

The jar is now being emptied into the bin.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Yuck!

One of the meals I often make is mince and tatties, can't stand it myself but it is quick, cheap and easy and the kids scoff it down without a fuss. The one problem with this meal is the high salt content of the gravy. I try and buy low salt alternatives wherever possible but had never found a low salt beef stock before so when I spied a tub of kallo just bouillon gravy granules for red meat I decided to give them a try because it has 30% less salt than the leading brand.

It cost me about £1.50 for a 200g jar from Tesco so about twice as expensive as my normal Bisto granules.

When I opened the jar I found an odd pinky beige coloured powder. Call me strange but I would expect granules to be granular and not powdery. The colour worried me a little bit too as all of the beef stock I have ever used in the past has been a dark brown in colour.

It says to make it you add 4 heaped teaspoons to 1/2 a pint of water. I added this to my mince and ended up with a really odd coloured thick gravy. I had a taste and it tasted like tomato and sugar and salt mixed together. I added more of the powder hoping for a more intense taste but this never happened and I ended up having to add a knor beef cube to get any real flavour.

I've just made up some of this gravy to try and describe it better. It has the same colour as chicken gravy would have, is incredibly thick but tastes like thickened, slightly less salty vegetarian oxo cubes, certainly not a gravy for red meats.

The reason I bought this product was for its low salt content. With 0.3g sodium per 100ml of gravy made up per instructions its fairly good but still not low in salt and as I needed to use a stock cube to get some flavour in my mince then I probably ended up with a higher salt content than if I'd just stuck with Bisto.

The list of nothing to hide ingredients is potato starch, maltodextrin, salt, beef extract, natural flavourings, yeast extract, tomato powder, fructose, roasted onion powder, vegetable fat, caramel, guar gum, beef fat, garlic, mushroom powder, pepper, herbs (rosemary, thyme).

I use kallo low sodium vegetable cubes and really like them so I'm disapointed that this product is so horrible. Low salt shouldnt mean tasteless and a product that says it is granules shouldnt be a powder. As you can guess this disgusting slop pretending to be a gravy for red meat won't be going in my trolley again.
