Morrisons Value Curry Sauce
Advantages: cheap and tasty
When I moved in with my boyfriend we decided that he would take on the responsibility of doing the weekly shop. I have to admit in the past and even to an extent now I am somewhat of a brand snob. My boyfriend on the other hand has sought to keep our food shopping bills as low as possible by switching branded products to the supermarkets own brands and quite often I have been pleasantly surprised.
I believe this curry sauce currently costs around 12p, although several months ago it was as cheap as 7p! I think the price alone justifies trying the produce out. Appearance wise this product is nothing special. It comes in a glass jar(440g) with a gold lid and yellow label. The label carries all the relevant information you would expect on there such as ingredients, nutritional advice and warnings for those who have allergies. This product is suitable for vegetarians, but not for those who have nut, milk, mustard or sulphite allergies. I would also add if you don't like sultanas to avoid this product, although there aren't that many so you may want to pick them out.
The instructions on the label advise what to do in order to cook an actual curry, however we have never used the sauce in this way. Often we use it to pour over our chips or fish as a sauce as it only takes a couple of minutes to warm through. The colour of the sauce is a dark yellow and the consistency is quite runny, surprisingly this does not reflect the taste which I was worried might be a bit watery especially as we did not add any further ingredients. I would compare the product similar to that which you would get in a chippy. Although the sauce carries a slight kick it is not overly strong or too hot for anyone who is not a fan of spicy food.
This product exceeded my expectations and I honestly believe if you like curry sauce then you can't go wrong with this product. If I had not known before hand then I would not have guessed this was a supermarkets own brand product.
Summary: Exceeded expectations
