Fantastic sauce that I use to liven up meals. I first saw this on Dragons Den but started buying it when Asda started stocking it. I only buy it when it's on offer for £1 because otherwise it's too pricey for what it is. The bottle label is really trendy and brightly coloured and gives a real sense of the type of sauce in it. The sauce is smoky and and spicy. I find it far more tasty than other barbecue sauces as the flavour is more intense. I have used it as a table/dipping sauce - my kids live it with chicken nuggets. I have moved on to using it more in cooking now, it's brilliant in slow cooking recipes and a bit of it in pasta or bolognese sauce really adds flavour. My latest idea has been to put it on top of pieces of chicken before cooking in the oven. Meat marinated in the sauce and barbecued is another family favourite as well as using it as a burger relish. As you can see it's a really versatile sauce, one which is handy to have in your kitchen cupboard. Happy dining!
Reggae Reggae Sauce Spicy, fruity tang-tastic sauce with a kick, this sauce is amazingly tasty!! Having tried other various BBQ sauces and the like, I got bored with them quickly as most taste the same and have a processed style after taste, however this sauce suprised me, admittedly it isnt a BBQ sauve but it is definatley a break from the norm. You can use on chicken, burgers, sausages, in sandwiches for something special, barbecues, or make your own pasta sauce etc if you like the extra tang! goes great in a bolognaise sauce!! Best sauce for a treat or just something different Available in other flavours not just the Jerk/BBQ flavour but I haven't tried any other flavour..... yet! The only problem I have found is that it is runnier than most sauces such as ketchup and when i turn the bottle u to get the sauce out it runs out very quickly so you must be careful of this especially if you only want a little bit!!!
I saw Levi Roots, the creator of Reggae Reggae sauce on the Dragons Den. After seeing him and his light hearted ways, and how much he believed in his sauce, I did indeed want to put some music in my food. I first tried the sauce last year, as I had completely forgotten about it, until Levi's programme about Caribbean cooking came on the television. A bottle of the sauce costs about £1.50 and it is available in most supermarkets. The sauce itself is incredibly thick and sticky, and it has a fruity spicy taste, and it has a great depth of flavour, as it has lots of herbs and spices in the recipe. It is quite hot, and certainly adds a kick to whatever you use it in, but it is a nice kick. I love spicy foods, but not when they burn and this has a great heat to it, without burning your taste buds and becoming uncomfortable. I use this sauce for lots of things, it definitely spices up a chilli, and on veggie burgers is very tasty. I think you could use it for loads of things, I think the recipe book would be very interesting, but I think it would be very meat based and I am a veggie. There are now loads of Reggae Reggae products, such as cook books, different sauces and marinated meats by birdseye. I never have a problem buying this, as I think Levi Roots is such a funny genuine man, I have no problem making him money. He went into the dragons den with a dream and a great enthusiasm, and must be a millionaire by now, I think it's really nice to actually know where a product originated from, and that one man with his kitchen has turned his sauce into an empire with the help of Dragons Den.
My dad brought this AGES ago and we ended up chucking most of the bottle away because everyone in the house thought it was too hot. The other day in Morrisons though they was doing a demo and I tried a piece of french bread dipped into the sauce and also a bite of chicken that had been cooked in it. I loved it and brought a bottle straight away and have gone a bit mental with it just lately and have been having it on EVERYTHING! The best way to describe the flavour is to say that it's like mega spicey brown sauce, it's a thin sauce and comes out of the bottle waaaaaaay too quick for how hot it is. It should come in a squeezy bottle because if you put too much of this on your food you'll need a big glass of water after it! lol It's got a wicked chilli kick and it's deffo not a light weight kick either, my mum can't stand majorly hot food and she won't touch this because she knows it's too hot for her from when we had the last bottle. I think it's wicked but you only need a tiny bit, I dipped some prawns in it tonight and all I needed was a smear of the sauce and then you got a warm chilli kick but not that strong that it makes your eyes water. Last night I made a spaghetti bolognese and I put a dollop of Reggae Reggae sauce in with the Dolmio bolognese sauce and it was delish. It still tasted like bolognese but was lovely and spicey and the taste of it brought the meaty flavour of the mince out big time. I love a bit of cheese dipped in this sauce as well, it's best to use quite a strong cheese or the sauce will cover the flavour of it but weak cheeses work nice as well as long as you don't mind losing the taste of the cheese to the chilli! Recommended..... £1.54 a bottle and worth every penny because it's delish!!!
After watching a particularly enjoyable episode of "Dragon's den", and being entertained by a delightful man with very long dreadlocks and a fabulous name (Levi Roots), I thought nothing more of the investment he received from one of the dragon's for his families secret recipe jerk BBQ sauce.....until spotting it on the shelves of my local Asda on special offer for just £1.00 a bottle, the sauce was of course one of our cupboard staples - "reggae reggae sauce". I was of course intrigued and popped a bottle in my trolley and carried on shopping. Again it completely slipped my mind until serving dinner up one night and my husband clocked it in the cupboard alongside the tomato ketchup. After ascertaining that this could be used as either a marinade or a pouring sauce, he decided to give himself a good splodge worth alongside his chips. The first thing we noticed aside from the colourful label on the stand up glass bottle, and the obligatory green, yellow and red colours of all things reggae, was how runny the sauce was. Once tipped up the sauce runs out very easily and very quickly, so my hubby ended up with a large amount on the side of his plate. The sauce is a very dark brown colour, with there being a darker brown speckle visible within, this is I assumed the spicy element of the sauce. The smell is very distinctive, spicy with that indisputable BBQ smell, with the slightest edge of vinegar. The taste is an explosion of flavour and spice, with the BBQ flavour being the first taste there, then the slight sweet and sour flavour next followed with a real punch, which is obviously the spicy part, though after reading the ingredients (am not going to list them all, sorry!), this does contain scotch bonnet chillies. These are of course one of the hottest chillies you can get, though luckily there is only 1.5% per bottle included, but it still packs a punch! After using the first bottle as just a condiment of sorts, I decided to cook with it next. I simply poured a generous amount over a couple of chicken breast and baked in the oven, then added bacon and cheese to transform the dish into a spicy chicken and bacon melt. The taste was sensational! The sauce gets no thicker during cooking, but doesn't become runnier either, unlike other sauces when heated up. The chicken was read hot in flavour but definitely adds a subtle heat to the flesh with there still being the sweet and sour flavour too. The nutritional information is as follows - Per 100g serving, 121 kcal, 28.8g carbohydrate, 27.1g of which sugars, 0.1g fat, 0.0g of which saturates. Allergy advice states that this contains gluten and barley. We rather enjoy a barbeque, and last summer spent quite a few sunny afternoons and into the evening sat in the garden of some friends of ours cooking, eating, chatting and generally having a good time. Why theirs - well coz they had a new baby so doing it there was easier for them, and we didn't mind. It was at their place that we first came across Reggae Reggae sauce. Now hubby is a regular hot freak, and I'm not adverse to a bit of spice in my food, so this went down quite well with us as you can imagine. It's based on a Jamacian jerk sauce recipe and has lots of spices in it as well as being reasonably sweet and fruity tasting. It looks a bit like brown sauce in it's consistency, and actually in some ways it's got a similar under note to it which is probably from the fruits used, but it's definitely much spicier and richer tasting. We've used it in cooking, and also as a dipping sauce, I think it's particularly nice with a lamb burger in a bun, and hubby thinks it tastes best over his chips. Actually one of my favourite way's of cooking with it is as our friends did it the first time we encountered it, used as part of a marinade for chicken, and then barbequed or grilled. It gives a really tasty coating to the meat and to be honest although it's nicest if you add a few other ingredients to the marinade, it's not actually necessary. A bottle costs around £1.50 in most supermarkets, but we found some not long back in Farm Foods for £1 a bottle, so we stocked up a bit. It's easy to spot on the shelves because the label on the bottle is in traditional Rasta colours (Yellow, Green and Red), which really makes it stand out from the rest. There are three other flavours in the Reggae Reggae table sauce range now, but I've not tried those yet. Nor have we tried the various cook in sauces that are available either. We keep meaning to, but somehow every time I'm in the supermarket I forget to look for them. There's a Levi Roots (the man who came up with Reggae Reggae sauce) Reggae Reggae website too, which may not sound that interesting, but actually it's worth a look as there are a few rather nice recipes listed on there - the glazed chicken is lovely. There's also a section about Levi Roots music as well which is quite interesting, and details of his latest tour where he cooks and sings at the same time - now I know I've been known to sing in the kitchen occasionally, but combining the two on stage seems a tad strange to me - what does he do pass the food out to the audience? Anyway, going back to the original sauce itself, I'd say if you like a bit of spice in your food and haven't already done so, then this one is very much worth a look. It's not too expensive, and it does lend itself to cooking as well as being used as a table sauce making it very versatile.
It seems everyone knows the story about how Reggae Reggae Sauce came exploding into our supermarkets and into most of our cupboards these days. Since his appearance on Dragons Den, Levi Roots (aka Keith) has shot to fame. Despite making drastic errors in the Den, Levi secured an investment from Peter Jones and Richard Farleigh. Peter Jones put in a call to Sainsburys and before you knew it, the sauce had moved from the Notting Hill Carnival into one of the countries biggest supermarket chains So what does it taste like? Its described as a Jamaican Jerk Barbecue Sauce, and combines sweet flavours with a spicy kick. The beauty of this sauce is that it can be used as an accompaniment to other dishes, or as the main sauce within the dish. To give you a few examples, I have coated it around burgers and cooked it into the meat, yet also just placed it as a nice blob on top of the burger. I've used it to cook chicken, i've added it to curries, to bolognese sauce, and more recently (and quite ingeniously) as a pizza base. As a man whos not used to food experimentation, its amazing the doors that one bottle of very well priced sauce (RRP £1.49 although I tend to find many stores have offers on it), can bring. This is possibly the Dragons biggest and best success
I love to cook and I love to eat nice meals and I am a very regular user of all sorts of sauces, both table and cooking sauce, I also love to try new things so when my son informed me about Reggae Reggae sauce I just had to give it a go. My son had it brought to his attention like many others it seems by the BBC2 programme Dragons Den in which the creator of the sauce MR Levi Roots managed to convince Dragons Peter Jones and Richard Farleigh to invest £50,000 in return for a 40% share in his company. The taste of this sauce is unique, totally different from any other sauce I have tried and very, very tasty it has to be said. It is a Jamaican jerk sauce which in very basic terms is an alternate take on BBQ sauce, you can taste a smoky BBQ taste but through it comes a tangy, fruity, spicy taste too, that's the trouble with unique things, they are very hard to describe. The consistency of the sauce is much thinner than thins like tomato ketchup or brown sauce which makes it better for cooking with whilst still being very nice to drizzle over things as a table sauce. Essentially designed for meats this sauce is great with beef, chicken and lamb alike but my wife now regularly uses it as a salad dressing so it really is an all round sauce. My son has taken to eating it with pretty much everything and I am starting to do the same, it is just so damned tasty. As far as I know right now you can only buy this in one size of bottle and it costs around £1, the bottle is not that big and as this stuff is quite addictive I find myself running out on a regular basis so a bigger bottle would be the only thing I would change about this brilliant Reggae Reggae sauce and if you haven't tried this yet then I suggest you do soon.
I always feel the need to use sauces with my food in one way or another, be it a dipping sauce for chips, or marinades for meat, I am never afraid to try a variety of different sauces to make my meals that little bit different each time. Reggae Reggae Sauce is a Jamaican Jerk Sauce which found the recognition it deserves after being pitched on BBC2's "Dragons Den." It appeared that the television boost was all the sauce needed for a profit boost, and now Reggae Reggae Sauce is a pernament product in supermarkets such as Sainsburys, and restaurants/eateries such as Subway, Wetherspoons and the Slug and Lettuce. The sauce is mainly emphasises Levi's Jamaican upbringing, and the lively Jamaican life, such as their music, thus giving the sauce the slogan "Put Some Music In Your Food." The taste of the sauce is unique, and damn right tasty. In a way, it acts as an alternative to BBQ sauce. Whilst the BBQ flavour can slightly be tasted, the mix of a fruit, sweetness, spice and herbs found in a bottle of Reggae Reggae Sauce packs it with a lot more flavour. Fans of spicy food will love this little accompaniment, which is not not only spicy, but quite tangy too. Your tastebuds will love this, but I advise having a glass of water handy if you use a considerable amount-it does leave your mouth burning a little, like any hot spices will do. The packaging is bright and eyecatching, featuring a very Jamaican theme, such as the typical colours found on the Jamaican flag. A sillouette of Levi Roots is placed over the top of the bright yellow, green and red stripes. The bottle itself is quite large, and will only set you back around £1 in most supermarkets. However, I found the sauce very addictive, and so therefore the bottle does not last long before you need to buy another one again. I use it for anything, from a dipping sauce on the side of my plate, to marinades for meats. It especially works well as a marinade on chicken, so you can make your own Jamaican style Jerk chicken. Nowadays, Reggae Reggae Sauce is joined by two new flavours, the "Love Apple Tomato Sauce" and "Fiery Guava Dipping Sauce", which both retain a similar taste to the original sauce, but with added ingredients thrown in to make it unique to the others. Not only is the bottled sauce range proving to be so successful, but creator Levi Roots has released a single off of the back of it, (aptly entitled "Reggae Reggae Sauce Song"), and a "Reggae Reggae Cookbook", to give you more ways to use the sauces. If you are after something a little different to act as a marinade or dipping sauce, and don't mind the taste of something quite spicy, then I suggest trying out Reggae Reggae Sauce. Reggae Reggae Sauce has a mixture of flavours running through it, from hints of BBQ sauce, herbs, spices, fruity flavourings, and a slight tinge of sweetness. The bottle is quite largely sized, and is also considerably cheap. I always make sure I have a bottle in my kitchen, it helps to spice up what could be quite a dull meal otherwise. It is a delicious Jamaican sauce perfect for mealtimes, so next time you go food shopping, don't forget to put a bottle of Reggae Reggae Sauce into your basket, you won't regret it!
I am quite a sauce fanatic and am always looking to try out new sauces, so I was pleasantly surprised when Subway began to offer Reggae Reggae Sauce on their subs, a fruity, strange-tasting but ultimately gorgeous new sauce from Levi Roots that you might've seen as a product pushed on the TV show Dragon's Den. This is one of the best sauces on the market and well worth picking up, which you won't find troublesome because, as you can see from the picture, the bottle is very colourful and unique looking, which reflects its unique and colourful taste. This is a sauce almost too complex and packed with flavour to give its due in a quick review: the most overwhelming flavour is undeniably the fruit component, and there is also a strong hint of BBQ, combining to give a taste that's totally original and gorgeous! It goes well with just about anything you'd normally put sauce on, and is especially good for adding flavour to foods without much taste, such as when I used the sauce to spice up some liver burgers I made recently. The sauce is actually intended to be used for jerk chicken, though, and the bottle has a web address on for recipies and help using it properly. Unlike most premium brands, this isn't that expensive: a bottle costs £1, and while they don't generally last that long because a) the bottle isn't that big and b) because I use so much of it in one meal, it is something that has become a regular fixture in my household. Combining that welcoming "je ne sais quois" taste with a lovely consistency that works with so many meals, this is one of the nicest sauces I have ever had.
I remember seeing Levi Roots on Dragons Den a couple of years ago. I was impressed with his pitch, but also won over by his affable charm and sincerity. The man seemed to have a genuine passion for his sauces and for food in general. The fearsome dragons all warmed to him and Levi Roots secured his investment, which allowed him to pump more money into his Reggae Reggae sauce and get it into supermarkets. It was not long before Sainsbury and Tesco were stocking his product and it was flying off the shelves, selling thousands of bottles each week. Reggae Reggae sauce is a table sauce, much in the vein of ketchup or HP, that you use to bring flavour and colour to dishes. It is a versatile sauce, which means you can have it with chicken, pork, chips, tortilla wraps, etc. The first thing you will notice is the wonderful bright packaging which seems to embody everything Roots stands for. The taste is curious. I thought it was going to be quite weak, but it's actually got a real kick to it. The first time it hits the tastebuds, you will think wow and then want to reach for a drink! It is not so spicy that you will be rushing round the kitchen flapping your arms about in anguish, but it will make you purse your lips and acknowledge the intensity. It tastes a little like brown sauce, mixed with piri piri and barbecue. There are lots of flavours trying to push through here, some sweet and some savoury. There is a subtle vinegar lurking in the midst, a robust tomato, a sweet gingery essence and a good dose of herbs lingering in the background too. The twist of garlic gives it added punch. I was really impressed with the sauce, it has a very unique taste and stands apart from other table sauces. You would be able to recognise this in a taste test and it would compliment many dishes. It would work particularly well with summer barbecues and chicken dishes. A bottle will cost around two pounds, so thumbs up for a decent sauce with plenty of bite.
Reggae Reggae sauce was home produced by Levi Roots to his grandmothers original recipe and then sold at the Nottinghill carnival where demand was so high that they could not keep up with production. An appearance on the dragons den made the sauce famous and, as they say, the rest is history and you can now find this tasty jerk/BBQ sauce in all good supermarkets. I'm not at all familiar with Carribean food so I have no idea if this sauce is authentic or not but I do know that I love it. The dark brown sauce comes in a 310g glass bottle and sells for around £1.79 but can be found on offer fairly frequently. The sauce itself is fairly runny, thinner than most table sauces and when I have tried to use it as a sauce like this I end up splatting huge dollops of it onto my plate. Another suggested use for the sauce is to marinate meat before cooking, I have never used it as a marinade but have diluted it a bit with water and used it as a cooking sauce with chicken with excellent results. The taste of the sauce straight out of the bottle is like a spicy version of brown sauce, it smells quite vinegarry but luckily the vinegar does not overpower the taste. Overall the sauce has a nice spicy kick without being too hot and you can also taste some of the onion, herbs and ginger used to add flavour. When I have used the jerk/BBQ sauce as a cooking sauce it has developed a nice sweet and smoky taste so I think it is best used to cook with rather than straight from the bottle. I really enjoy Reggae Reggae sauce, it tastes different from other sauces on the market and using it I can make a delicious BBQ chicken dish by simply pouring it over chicken and baking.
Like many other people I came across the idea of Reggae Reggae sauce from Dragons Den. I remember watching it one morning and being quite happy that it worked on the shop. It wasn't until 6 months or so later that I actually saw it in the supermarkets and remember being so keen on trying it, purely because of the program! The packaging shot out at me to start with. In a cylinder shaped glass jar, the label and packaging is bright in the colours of Jamaica making the quite a fun purchase. The two I have tried are Love Apple Tomorrow Ketchup and Jerk/BBQ. I have these on absolutely anything and everything. I mix the Jerk/BBQ in with tomato soup, if I'm having tuna, pasta or any meats. I have the apple tomato ketchup on a lot of meats, mainly on a freshly grilled steak. I usually smother it on top and it seeps through giving it such a fantastic taste. There are several fantastic recipes however on the website in which how to best use the sauce, although I still feel it can be used anyway and still be great tasting! These can be found at reggae-reggae.co.uk. I would happily pick a jar of this over an everyday tomato ketchup, brown sauce or mustard to put with my food. I must get through a jar a week!
Just had a spicey jar of Reggae Reggae sauce for tea with chicken. So though I would write just a quick review about it. Levis Roots creation helped by the Dragons on Dragons den. Tastes of the caribean mixed with a spicey mexican twist. The jar is coloured with the tradtional jamacian reggae colours seen by any Bob Marley. Red, Yellow and Green. The sauce is a very deep brown and reasonably thick. It did stick to inside of the jar so did have to scrap a lot out. It mixed well in the pan and had a thick concistancy which it didn't loose throughout the cooking process. It coated the chicken evenly and looked appitising. Taste The initial taste is very bbq but with a definate sweetness, once it has been in your mouth a while the spice really kicks in. Then it is really quite spicey and does linger long past the swallowing. I wouldn't recommned it to kids unless they are used to madras or vindaloo as it does have a bit of an after kick. Well done Levi you have produced a new hot meal that will take over from the traditional Tikka Massala. Recommend you try it if you love really spicey food. Thanks for reading my review..x
Reggae Reggae Sauce is probably the best sauce you will ever come across, i eat this on anything! from cheese on toast to steak or pork chop. Its just spicy enough to give your food a kick but not so spicy that it will blow your head off. I remember watching the dragons den episode where Levi Roots went in and showed off his product, he was refused! i dont see how or why because now its selling in most shops all over the UK. I also have heard that he has a single out? i may have to check that out as i couldnt stop laughing when he was sining in the den. -- Taste -- Cant be beat, spicy but not spicy enough to explode your tounge. Tastes tomato like and very flavoursome. -- Price -- thats another great thing about the sauce, its cheap. You can pick up one of the larger bottles for around £2.50 and normaly that should last you for a few weeks. -- overview -- I use it on everything, and i tihnk that once you try it you will too.
