      Ok for the money

With the warmer weather upon us I am loving eating salads again! However I get bored of just eating leaves and the likes and often purchase things to add to it so its not so boring! I love pickle onions, usually buy Garne onesr...however with me saving up to go away for Easter with my lovely man I have been making more economy prurchases than ever before!

I spotted these in Sainsbury's costing 31p a jar and compared to what I normally pay these seemed like a right little bargain to me!

      The Packaging:

The pickled onions come is a glass see-through jar with a white twist on/off lid to the top of it concealing a large hole. On the front of the label which is white and orange in colour we are told that they are Sainsbury's 'Basics' Pickled Onion 'Still pleases cheeses' and there is an at a glance nutritional chart shown as well as being told that they are suitable for Vegetarians and Vegans. Other information listed towards the back of the jar includes ingredients, allergy advice and a full nutritional chart being listed as well the weight of the jar being given (which in this case is 440g in this case (220g drained weight) and the only size I have seen these pickled onions available to purchase in and contact details for Sainsbury's are given. Cheap looking but informative packaging this is.

      The Onions:

These onions are smallish and white with stalky, tough bits to each end. Stored in plain spirit vinegar with a hint of salt and malt these taste and look like pickled onions really. They are oniony in flavour and taste of sharp vinegar and thats all these is to say about them really. They stay whole and the skins are not floating unattractively in the jar. For me though I don't like the tough bits on the end of the onions and end up spitting them out and they really are not interesting in flavour at all just rather vinegary and sour and could do with a little more seasoning in them really. Not awful, good quality but a little on the plain side for me.
