... those that are too spicy and I certainly don't want one that tastes vinegary. I also want to taste the sweetness in a sweet pickle. The Basics pickle scores well on most of those fronts. It smells pleasantly of spice with ginger and nutmeg being most obvious to me. It doesn't taste as strong as some that I have tried, which means that it doesn't overwhelm the taste of a milder cheese. I have a weakness for cheese sandwiches, especially those with pickle or chutney in. This means I get through a lot of jars, and when I run out of what I have made myself, it can be quite expensive to keep up with my habit! When I saw that Sainsbury's stock an own label sweet pickle for just 25p I thought it was worth trying. It is part of their cheapest Basics range, and the packaging reflects that. The pickle comes in a glass jar with a simple orange and white label. This doesn't bother me, but it wouldn't look pretty if you wanted it out on display when you have guests for lunch or a picnic.
