Advantages: Cheap, Low In Fat & Calories.

Disadvantages: Very High In Salt, Not The Nicest Tasting Soup In A Mug.

I love a bargain and I'll try anything if I think it's cheap, especially if it's a cheaper version of something I usually buy.

This 'Vegetable Soup In A Mug' is basically a 'basics' version of a cup a soup. Within the cardboard box there are 4 individual sachets with each one weighing 18g approximate. The packaging and the sachets are really quite basic to look at as you would expect for something that costs just 17p. Each sachet contains vegetable powders (Pea, onion, carrot), dried vegetables (Carrots, peas) amongst other things and they are very simple to make.

To make up a soup in a mug simply open your sachet, pour the contents in to a mug and then just add some boiling water and stir very well. You need to stir for a minute or two just to ensure that all of the powder is blended with the hot water otherwise you will end up with lumps in your soup or a big bit of slodge left at the end in your mug.

The soup itself is pretty average really. It does have a vegetable taste to it and it's got a fairly high salt content. I could taste the salt and it was quite off putting. There was a fairly good taste to the soup, when you couldn't taste too much salt and I could definitely taste pea and carrot as the main vegetables in this soup. The salt was quite off putting though and I found that I felt quite thirsty for the rest of the day.

I would rate this a 2/5 as it is drinkable, just, but it does have a very high salt content with each serving (one soup) containing 18% of your daily GDA (1.08g) and this lets down the fact that there is just 68 calories & 1.7g of fat. The soup would be ideal if they could reduce the amount of salt, but sadly, at such a cheap price, I just don't see that happening. I would only recommend this if you were on an extremely tight budget and couldn't afford something slightly more expensive.

Summary: An Average Soup.
