      Tasty sauce

We are big fans of pasta bake and our favourite flavour is the creamy tomato and herb one. Therefore, when I spotted this sauce in Sainsbury's that looked quite similar I decided to give it a go.

The sauce can be found in the fridge section and it costs £1.40 for a tub which contains 350g. It is currently on offer where you can buy 2 of these sauces for £2.50 which I thought was good value.

The sauce has a shelf life of over 2 weeks but we decided to have ours the other evening. We had my niece and she is quite picky when it comes to meals so we had this knowing it would be something we would all quite happily eat.

To heat the sauce you simply put it on the hob for around 4 minutes. You can also heat it in the microwave if that is easier for you. When I was heating it, I noticed that it was quite important to stir it often otherwise it would have stuck to the bottom of the pan.

I served the sauce with fresh pasta. There was plenty of sauce to feed 2 adults and a child. The sauce smelt really nice and fresh, you could detect tomato but it smelled quite subtle.

The sauce tasted lovely. It was very similar in flavour to my favourite pasta bake flavour (creamy tomato and herb). The sauce was thick but smooth and there were no noticeable bits in it (apart from herbs). It did taste of tomato but the cheese really took the tangy edge from it which meant it tasted subtle. You couldn't really taste the cheese itself but it probably altered the taste of the sauce quite a lot.

We all really enjoyed the sauce and I will certainly buy it again as I thought it was good value for a fresh pasta sauce. It was very tasty and covered the pasta well, providing us all with a lovely meal which was also quick and easy for me to cook!

Sainsbury's recommend the pot serves two people but as I said it served the three of us well. Half a pot contains 151 calories, 6.7g sugars, 10.3g fats, 5.8g saturates and 0.61g salt. This isnt too bad for such a creamy and tasty sauce. The fat content is quite high but then it is being served as part of a main meal.

      Lovely sauce - recommended.

good choice at the end of a day

When I can't be bothered to cook on a night I nearly always do pasta with some kind of sauce. Quick and easy, fairly healthy and so always good to have a jar/tub of sauce in your cupboard or fridge.

I normally have the tomato and mascarpone sauce from tesco however was recently in sainsburys and thought would give this one a try. The packaging is exactly the same, a round tub holding 350g with a lid that gets snapped at the side and then opens by being pulled open.

The sauce itself is creamy but not as thick as I would like it to be. You can heat it in the microwave but I find that the taste goes a little bit this way and so usually heat it on the hob and it only takes five minutes. Once heated it pours easily over the pasta but as I mentioned is quite thin and so does run all over the pasta and if it was a bit thicker it would stick a bit more to the pasta and the taste would be a bit better. I think however this means there is always some on your dish so your garlic bread can mop it upJ

There are some green herbs in the sauce which from looking at the ingredients I'm guessing is basil however there is no real taste of this. Also the mascarpone is also masked by the strong taste of tomatoes and so overall just tastes very tomatoey.

The pot serves two easily, three at a very big push so I personally would stick with two.

Nutrition for half of the pot
        151 calories
        6.7g sugars
        0.61g salt
        5.8g sat. fat
        10.3g fat

Fromt the above you can see that it isn't very healthy and it would be better to make your own pasta sauce. But for a convenient quick meal at the end of a long day this works a treat and works out healthier than most other things that are in the freezer or cupboard.
