I have never really been the kind of person to have many stir fry's but in my bid to stay a bit healthier I decided that I would try and eat more of them. So after buying quite a few different stir fry sauces I came across the sharwoods spicy tomato and Szechuan. I absolutely hate spicy food but I still decided to give this a go when the jar assured me this was a mildly spiced stir fry sauce that contained tangy tomatoes and a hint of chilli. The stir fry sauce comes in a 195g jar with the typical sharwoods design. It has a black twisty lid. I must admit I much prefer sauces coming in a jar as I sometimes find it hard to get all the sauce out of a packet without some getting stuck in a wasted. Jars are much less messy. The sharwoods sauce smells very aromatic and you can smell the tomatoes and chilli instantly. The sauce is of medium constituency and pours very well. I try to combine a good few vegetables in my stir fry as well as meat or prawns depending on what I fancy. One of my favourite recipes for stir fry is: Stir fry chicken until golden brown. Add onions, peppers, mushrooms and bean sprouts. When cooked add the spicy tomatoes and Szechuan sauce and cook for a further few minutes. The spicy tomato and Szechuan sauce really compliments chicken and the vegetables. I love the way you can almost taste sweetness to the sauce yet the chilli adds a kick perfectly to create a medium spice which is enjoyable. Whenever making a stir fry I always tend to go back to this sauce, I keep giving others a try but I am yet to find something as tasty as the sharwoods one. This sauce is around £1.79 to buy from a co-op store but I would advise to look around as I have seen them on offer for a pound on a few occasions. I would definitely recommend to anyone who hasn't tried this especially of you like sweet and spicy.
I love stir fry, really love it... I have probably been making it at least once a week for the last few years. It's a quick and very tasty meal and incredibly versitile as you can pretty much chuck in any veggies, meat and fish that you wish. Now I'm not really a fan of sweet stir fry sauces so I have tried to find something that has a spicy taste with bags of flavour. I have always opted for Sharwood's sauces as they seem to taste better than all other brands I have tried. They have a great range of different varieties and one of these is Spicy Tomato Szechuan. The sauce comes in a 195g bottle and I believe it costs approx £1.09. The sauce has quite a thick consistancy and is rich red colour which does make it stand out from most other stir fry sauces. The sauce itself is inspired by the Szechuan region of China and contain tangy tomatoes with a hint of jalapeno pepper. I would say it is medium spiced, it is not overpowering but it does certainly have a kick to it which I really enjoy. The inclusion of tomato also makes it incredibly tasty and the flavour stands up well and tastes great with either rice or noodles of both. I usually use this sauce with vegetable stir frys as I find they are a great way to get a good variation of veggies into one meal for my family. I also think that this sauce goes incredibly well with prawns, they seem to absorb the flavour really well. So to sum up, this is a great little sauce with a cheeky kick to it.
