“ Brand: Tesco / Type: Sauces „
I had'nt seen this sauce before in Tesco so I thought I would give it a try.
Tesco Cooking Sauce Red Thai is a Thai style red curry sauce with coconut. According to the label it has 2 chilli peppers so is therefore classed as mild.
It comes in a 320g glass jar with a red label. The picture with the serving suggestion is really small and all you can really see is a bit of meat, possibly chicken, some rice blurred in the background and some chop sticks.
The ingredients and nutritionally information take up most of the rest of the labelling, probably two thirds.
As you can imagine there are lots of individual ingredients in this sauce so I won't bore you with them all!!
The main ingredient is water, coconut (11%), Red Thai Curry Paste (5%).
This product is suitable if you are vegetarian but not if you are allergic to milk, celery and it cannot be guaranteed nut free. It also carries a warning that it contains small fibres, which come from the lemon grass and lime leaves.
One third of a jar contains 95 kcal, 2.7g sugar, 6.8g fat, 0.5g salt.
I used this sauce firstly with some prawns and it went really well. A few days later I used the rest with some chicken and again it tasted good.
It's quite a runny sauce so comes out of the jar easy enough but is still easy enough to eat. The sauce is a bright red in colour and has 'bits' in it. I'm sure I saw bits of lemon grass, carrot, onion and pepper.
It says that it is a medium strength but I did find it to be on the limit of what I was comfortable in eating. It definitely made my nose run!!
I would say that each jar will serve 3 people.
Although I enjoyed the sauce I probably wouldn't buy it again, might try the green version though!!
It costs 97p obviously only available at Tesco. (Thanks to those who found the price for me)
