Tesco Value Tomato Soup
Advantages: smooth, creamy, excellent value at 17p a throw
Disadvantages: None really
After having the telephone call to pick my daughter up early from school after she had been poorly, I nipped to Tesco to get something light for her tea.
In my own opinion I feel that Tomato soup is one of the greatest comfort foods in the history of comfort foods, and my daughters' favourite comfort food also happens to be tomato soup.
When I initially looked at the shelves with tinned soup on, the prices on the more expensive varieties (Heinz, Baxters, Campbells etc) all felt quite off putting as they were over a pound in some instances.
I am on a tight budget - as I suppose many are these days. On closer inspection of the shelves I discovered, the Tesco value soup range residing on the lowest shelf, price - 17p for a 400g tin of Tesco's value soup - in different flavours.
I read the ingredient labels on a number of tins of tomato soup, some contained wheat and gluten (which both myself and my daughter are allergic to), and seeing the value tin (at 17p a throw) and gluten / wheat free to boot, I thought I'd get some and see what my daughter thought.
All tucked up in bed, with a hottie and some juice, my daughter said she'd try some.
I examined the soup closely whilst heating it up in a pan I noticed that the texture looked creamy and smooth, and once heated up I tested it, it tasted really nice. I was pleasantly suprised that although it was only 17p, I feel the soup would give one of the more expensive varieties a good run for their money.
In my opinion, you really can't beat Tesco's value range - and it's value tomato soup is no different. What they save on the simple, but easily identifiable packaging, does not make a difference to the product inside the box (or tin in this case)!
So, in these days of strife where money isn't too plentiful, I am going to continue purchasing Tesco value produce and the tomato soup is at the top of my shopping list. So when they say - every little helps - this tasty little number helps save the pennies as well.
