Advantages: Quick and easy to make, and tastes yummy!

Disadvantages: none, just don't drop the glass jar

Sometimes after a long day at work, coming home to stand in the kitchen for an hour is really the last thing I want to do! This Uncle Ben's Oriental Sweet and Sour sauce is one of my favourite quick recipes to make that our family love!

I bought the 350g jar for £1.36 which for us makes enough to do a serving for 2 adults (me and my partner) and a little one (2 year old daughter.) It comes in a clear glass jar (so beware of dropping you will find yourself in a big saucy mess!) with an orange screw top lid and the Uncle Ben's label goind around it.

The contents are simple, it is a reddish-orange sauce, of quite thick consistency (although nowhere near as thick as when I order sweet and sour chicken from my local Chinese takeaway) and has a generous helping of carrots, onions, pineapples, celery and peppers. It has mainly pineapples and these are sweet tasting and compliment the sauce heavily. The other vegetables taste quite natural and are filling.

On days when I am rushed my easy recipe, is to boil some simple white rice, and quickly pan fry or grill some chicken breast pieces which have been lightly seasoned in garlic, black pepper and paprika and then mix the chicken all in with this sauce on the hob and it is good to go! It tastes lovely, is really filling and doesn't require a lot of concentration and skill in the kitchen area! I do love this sauce, but have always used it with chicken which I have pre-seasoned so in a way I have added a bit of flavouring to this sauce, but I would definitely recommend this sauce to anyone wanting a nice simple dinner! It also goes well with pork so there are lots of recipes to experiment with :)

Ingredients: Water, Tomatoes (17%), Sugar, Onions, Pineapple (6%), Vinegar, Carrots (4%), Cornflour, Red peppers (3%), celery, green peppers (3%), bamboo shoots (2%) Tamarind juice, Salt.

Summary: super sweet and sour sauce with vegetables from Uncle Ben
