Advantages: good quality scanning

Disadvantages: very slow

This scanner took about 15 min to scan an 8.5"x11" color image. It averaged about 2 min to scan a 2x3" descreened, color image, at 150 dpi. FOREVER! However with the magazine setting(descreen) off it scanned much, much faster. But still slow compared to my Epson.

The USB version may be better in speed though.

The quality of the image was excellent, but not if I have to wait that long. Images were sharp and color reproduction was good.

Software was decent as well. Kind of annoying for a power user. The ScanWise software wasn't the best and did not include very many advanced imaging options. There were no settings to produce quick, good quality copies.

There was also no buttons on the scanner itself except for a power button. What I did like about the scanner was that the light would turn off by itself after 15 min. of idling.

Stuartli mentioned that his 1212u if you're only scanning one photo, the scanner doesn't bother doing the whole A4 screen - does the 1212p do this as well? Thanks - ipj

I have the same scanner (1212u) and find it will scan four or five standard size colour pix very quickly at around 100dpi, which is more than enough for web and e-mail use.

If you use an individual picture it cleverly only scans the actual picture area rather than the full A4 screen.

I've found it a great step up from my original Mustek 300dpi model and at a price of only £33.23 delivered from jungle.com a truly great bargain as well. The Mustek cost £40 plus VAT from Makro around 18 months ago.

I was thinking of buying a parallel port scanner, so this was handy to know.
