Excellent speed and quality of scan (Canon Canoscan 4400F)

Advantages: will scan thick books

Disadvantages: Slide magazine is flimsy and will not take AGFA slides

I ordered this scanner on the internet and having been unable to examine it in any retail outlet . I had read good reviews on it and given it was a Canon product was relatively inexpensive and would scan slides it was ordered.

Sadly while it certainly is very fast and produces excellent scanning results on documents and photographs its a whole different matter when it comes to the slide magazine :-

1) this will not accomodate AGFA plastic slide mounts as they are slightly thicker than Kodak carboard ones or other companies plastic mounts and like many people I have a large stack of AGFA slides all taken over the last 40 years that i wanted to scan onto a CD

Not only will the magazine not take Agfa slides its very flimsy and fragile and will easily break except when used by the most delicate hands and with infinite patience

2) the cardboard sheet that should slide in the lid is equally poor quality and flimsy

How sad that whoever designed this scanner did not put in a little more effort and thought to make it truly excellent

I have returned mine for a refund having failed to receive a response to E Mails to Canon

Summary: Canon need to rethink this scanner to make it truly excellent
