I'd been looking around for a reasonably priced scanner for a few weeks. Then one evening, while checking some new emails I discovered one from www.buy.com whom I had never used before. My first thought was "Oh great ... yet more spam I have to delete" but for some reason I read it anyway. At the time I had read a few complimentary opinions on them so I guess it must have stuck in my mind! The email offered a £20 discount to new users on their first order over £40. That got my attention. So I went and had a look around the site, mostly at software titles on offer. Almost just before I gave up I stumbled onto the scanner section and found ... I had always wanted a scanner, but had always thought of them too expensive. This was a snap at the price I got it at, especially as I had some coupons for an internet store. It brought the price down to about £25. Definitely a bargain. To be honest, I don't do a lot of scanning to be able to tell you the the nitty gritty of scan qualities, but the drivers for the scanner are pretty sufficient. They give you a preview of the page on the scanner also giving you a wide range of options to scan in at. For example, what colour depth and resolution (upto 1200dpi interpolated). The speed of scanning is almost directly proportionate to the resolution and colour ... Read the complete review

Last year, a person whom I was giving plenty of computer assistance to was in the market for a scanner. I had done plenty of research on various scanners and found that the Canon scanners are worth specifying. I knew that they had a relatively-modern computer that was equipped with a USB port and I liked the way this scanner was able to work off one cable to the computer. The person whom I was providing computer assistance to thought about providing me with something as a thank-you for the work that I had put in; and agreed to buy me one. The mechanism that is built into this unit is very simple in concept -- one bar containing RGB LEDs to illuminate ... Read the complete review

The specifications of the unit are rather average. The basic resolution is 600dpi, with a scanner motor capable of moving in 1,200dpi steps. This gives a hardware resolution of 600x1,200dpi. With software interpolation this can be taken up to 9,600dpi, although this will make for a very large file that will take the Canon an age to complete. I tend to scan pictures at 300dpi and, for most printed work, this is sufficient, The Canon does have the advantage of being very compact. A very small and light scanner, it weighs only 1.5kg and could fit inside a briefcase. I got impressive results from this tiny scanner. The image quality was excellent, with ... I recently bought a Canon 630U because I liked it's size and lack of power supply. It is only just a little bigger than a sheet of A4, and takes it's power from the USB socket, so it's impact on your desk is minimal. The picture quality is very good for a home scanner. I have scanned in pictures and it's easy to make low resolution pictures for web sites and high resolution pictures for printing. When printed the pictures look great. The actual resolution of the scanner is 600dpi. Like all scanners it makes claims about software interpolated resolution, but this does not achieve much more than making your files bigger. Stick to the ... Read the complete review
