Have owned a Canon Lide 30 for over a year now and can quite happy say it was a bargain :)
When working with good software (Adobe Photoshop) it works amazing well and produces really nice images. Can run at a max 1200 dpi (600dpi with descreen enabled essential if your scanning a photo image) and produces massive images files, yes you need a decent computer if you set everything to maximum or be prepared to wait a very long time.

The major plus sides of this scanner are the very top end image results and the very low price. As with all things which are cheap and high quality theres a catch, its not very quick, can take a good few minutes to scan its A4+ area. Other good thing about this item is that its very tough, as i dropped my down the stairs which did leave a mark on the back but still works flawlessly well. Scanner also comes with its own cable which if printers are anything to go by is a rareity. The scanner also comes bundle with some nice software one of which is able to take a photo image and convert in a word processing document so if you loose a file but have a print out you don't have to retype it, this software in itself is worth as much as the scanner cost to me. One major draw back tho' if you loose the CD's it comes with don't expect canon's website to be any use at all - yes all the items you "need" are they to run the scanner pitty none of them work as there meant to . . .

Overall i would have to recommend it, so long as your not in any major rush.
