Advantages: good photo scans, slim and attractive

Disadvantages: only good when it works, texts and scans from books not very good

Right, i'm actually writing this op because my scanners broken and i got really annoyed. bought this for around £120 when it first came out about 2 yrs ago and when it was working correctly, it was good, but the images i scanned never seemed to be as good as another scanner for the same price range. i don't know why this is, i've never had a scanner before this one, but comparing to my friends' scans, mine seemed to look not as good!

well anyway, i've only really used the scanner a few times, and mainly bought it for my technology graphics project at school. i never seemed to get very high quality scans from say books, but i seemed to get some quite good scans from photos. this scanner scans photos really well, and also has a multiple photo mode where you can put 3 or 4 photos in at once, and the scans are automatically cropped and in separate files, which i thought was a really good feature for all my old holiday photos.

one day when i tured my computer on, for no reason, the scanner made a really funny noise, and it sounded scratchy, and it wouldn't stop, so i unplugged the USB plug from the computer. the next time i wanted to scan a photo, i plugged it back in, booted the computer, and nothing. The scanner doesn't even start up and it doesn't sacn or do anything. I rung the canon technical helpline many times trying to get it sorted, and they just basically told me to go away and try reinstalling and trying on other computers. i also e-mailed them many times and they have never replied. I also tried to get a replacement, but it was 14 months old, and there was only a 12 month warranty, so basically i'm left with a broken scanner that i've only used a few times.

i wouldn't recommend this, and would rather you buy an epson or hp one, even though these canon scanners are extremely thin and look amazing!

Thats a bit of a shame. I think I would have taken it back a long time before it finally blew up!!
