	Epson Perfection 4870 Photo ... 35mm formats then this scanner is perfect. The quality of output is equal to a drum scanner costing £000s. Density is good enough for all but the toughest slides - if you want more black, buy the 4990 or V700, but its very rare to push it to the limit. With black and white negs where density is rarely more than 2.5D you have very good dynamic range without quantisation artifacts in white areas. Epson scan software is excellent and I prefer it to the silverfast software that is bundled. You have full control of the scanning process with simple controls that work very much the way you expect if you are a photoshop user. It allows you to decide how the scanner clips highli... This is the same product as the standard Epson Perfection 1670 (same specifications etc) but with the capability to also scan photo negatives After months of struggle with my Manager and IT department, I was finally allowed to upgrade my standard company PC and upgrade my Operating System to Windows XP, from Windows NT4. 	Epson Perfection 1200U ... not have the money to buy again in a short while and researched the best scanner that I could buy. I needed a scanner that scanned images, but one that also scanned negatives, as I had many memories on negatives although had long since lost the photographs. There were several on the market though some of them seemed really flimsy and not that well put together. I think my love affair with the Epson was when I saw how solid the machine was and I knew that it would do what I wanted it to do.
