HP Scanjet 3400C:
... have had this scanner a number of years and always performed well. The slick design and easy to use functionality make it a great home office scanner. I have used this under Win 98, XP an Vista. The only problem is the lack of drivers for Vista and now Windows 7. HP have stopped supporting the device which is a real shame as do not want to throw this away just becuase HP cannot be bothered to support it any longer... Anyone who really knows me will know that I m obsessed with taking photos and have 1000s of digital photos stored online and I really wanted to scan in my old photos pre-digital era and wanted a decent scanner mainly for this reason. Epson Perfection V200 Photo ... is actually my work scanner and I have vowed that if I ever leave my job I will buy one for home. It is simply the easiest to use and highest quality scanner I have ever had. It is small and compact and easily fits on your desk. Basically the two main functions you can use on it are Photo Scanning and PDF scanning. Photo Scanning - What I like about this function is that the scanner actually recognises the size of the photo, so if you were to scan, for example a passport shot, it would produce an electronic version of ONLY the photo - ie, not an blank white image of the inside of the scanner with a tiny photo in the middle. Epson Perfection V500 Photo ... have been a long time user of Epson products and currently use an RX685 printer, which has a built in scanner. It is only when you step up the mark and use a dedicated scanner that you realise what you are missing. The Perfection V500 Photo scanner is a very well made unit. It feels very solid. It connects via USB and offers a 6400dpi optical resolution. The important spec of the V500 though, is the density range. The 3.4D density range means that this unit resolves a lot of detail in darker areas. Another great feature is the built in film and negative scanner.
