When I decided to purchase a scanner, I asked some friends with scanners for recommendations and did some comparisons for myself. Hewlett Packard was one name that was mentioned several times. I only wanted it for my own basic home use. I mainly use it only to scan photographs to e-mail to friends and family and for my webpage. I didn't want to pay a huge amount because of this. I's put off buying a scanner for a long time. I was a little afraid of getting one because I'd used a couple before that were very complicated. Also, several people I know have had a lot of troubles with theirs. I finally decided to bite the bullet and chose the Hewlett ... Read the complete review

A good few years ago, when I got into PCs in a big way (in the mid-1990s) I was impressed by the idea of a scanner. Here was an item (handheld in those days for most home users, looking a little bit like a flattened hairdryer!) that you could use to "grab" a photo or image in a magazine or book, transfer to your PC, and play about with to your heart's content. I forget which colour hand scanner I bought way back then (a Genius, I think), and while it proved useful for adding pictures and diagrams to my A-level and university reports, it was low-quality, cumbersome to fit (requiring a dedicated expansion card to be fitted into my PC) and difficult ... This HP scanner is a very good amateur scanner. It is very easy to plug, install and use. All you need to do to set up the scanner is to plug it in the back of your computer (with an USB cable) and to plug it in a power socket. After doing that, you should install the CD that comes with the scanner and that is it! It's that easy. The scanner itself is very easy to use. There are just two bottons on the scanner itself. One botton to scan and the other to print. If you press the scan botton, a window will appear on your screen and the scanning will start. If you are not happy with the initial scan, you can scan, changing ... Read the complete review

As a completely novice scanner-owner I was initially unsure whether my first attempts at scanning and printing excellent quality photos came out so badly because of me, or my NEW equipment. However, after several attempts at improving the focus, brightness etc using various software programs I concluded that my Scanjet 3300C wasn't working properly. I then spent over an hour on the phone with a very courteous HP technician fiddling with my computer setup, internet downloads(to add files and improve the OCR (optical character recognition for text editing))and other 'tweaks' only to be told that he thought I needed a replacement scanner. He then warned me that ... Read the complete review

Although i am a great fan of HP products this one is not one of my favourite, it is very slow to scan. The image quality is not what i would expect from a great name like HP, it works well with windows 98 which i assume most of you guys are running the scanner on, however when i recently updated to windows me could i get the wretched thing to work, not for the life of me my pc suddenly decided it was time to behave like a spoilt brat with the blue screen of death poping up at the most unexpected moment and basically thrashing its heels in to the carpet saying no way am i working for you buddy. Then i had a little thought tried to get help from my pc manufacturer but did ... Read the complete review
