Advantages: Good speed, High resolution, Transparency adapter

Disadvantages: n/a

I’ve been using this scanner for about 6 months now at work and have to say I am very content with its performance. It cost £187.99 from comet and has been worth every penny. One of the things I like best about it is its scanning speed – very fast. Its simple to operate – the screen that opens when you start the program on your PC is plain with only a few buttons and to begin a scan you simply hit the start scan button. This may seem very obvious, but I have had experiences with several scanners in the past and the basic operation of them has been confusing and not so straight forward.

Another great feature that I have found VERY handy is the Editable Text (OCR) option. This means you can scan a text document in and when you select this option and then save it as a Rich Text File it converts the scan into an editable Word document allowing you to edit and save it etc. Just watch out though sometimes some of the text may be converted wrongly and misspelled and you’ll have to change it. This will depend a lot on the quality of the document being scanned – if it isn’t clear to begin with then the OCR function will struggle to detect the correct characters (OCR stands for optical character recognition).

In addition to saving the image to your hard drive or a floppy disk, you can scan items directly to the printer, to a CD or directly to software packages. You get some programs along with the installation CD including Corel.com, ACDSee, HP Photoprinting, Acrobat Reader, Share to Web that you can muck about with. However, my desktop publishing package of choice is Photoshop and the scanner works very well with it.

Other features that are pretty much standard on scanner are the ability to manipulate scanned images – colours etc, being able to rotate images and zoom in and out.

The resolution output is 2400x2400 dpi which produces really good scans. It also comes with a transparency ada
pter which allows you to scan from negatives/films.

Would definitely recommend this product to others.
