Advantages: can scan 25 pages in a row
Disadvantages: a little expenise, who would want to scan 25 pages in a row?
The HP ScanJet 6350c or as it says on the model that I have ADF, I'm not sure what the difference is, they are identical machines you just can't find the ADF model anywhere on the HP website. Anyway getting side-tracked there a bit. This is one of the best scanners, for home or small business, that I have used, which produces quality scans. ~~The Scanner~~ The scanner itself does not look all that good, it is a dark grey colour and is quite bulky. The reason it is so bulky and not slim-line like the majority of scanners is that it has a paper feeder on top of its lid! This I can see being useful if the job that involves a lot of repetitive scanning, but for most users I feel that this tray is wasted. Also with you scanner, what I can only describe as a slide scanner. It is a triangle box with mirrors at the top of it with a plastic bottom with a hole just the right size for a slide (from a slide projector). I have looked at this and can work out how to use it, as if you use the box then there is no way that the lid will shut (oh well my quest for the answer continues, possibly to the manual!?). The quality of the scans that it produces are as good as any that I have seen. The only thing that you do need if you want a good printout is a good printer with quality paper. ~~The Software~~ The software that HP supply with the scanner is actually quite good as scanning software goes. It installs and any drawing packages that you have there will appear a scanner icon. When you click on this the HP scanning software will appear. Before this loads it will asks you whether you are doing a single or multiple sheets. This is cleaver as it tells you whether there is paper in the feeder. When the software loads a pre-scan showing the image in the scanner will appear. If you want to change what you are scanning you can do another preview scan, you can also change from true colour all the way through to black and white. Also
like in most other scanning software you can select the area in which you want to scan by clicking and dragging an area. Finally to scan is very easy all you have to do is click the "Return to..." option from the scan menu. ~~Techy Specks~~ For those who are interested here are the technical specifications of the scanner: Image Quality: 1200 dpi (dots per inch) Scan Speed: 4 x 6 colour photo < 50 seconds OCR a full page of text < 60 seconds Black-and-white drawing < 50 seconds Copy ppm/ADF 5 pages Interface: USB and SCSI (USV Cable Supplied) Operating System: W95/W98/NT 4.0 Special Features: 25 Page Document Feeder Apparently this is meant to be "Intelligent Scanning Technology". To find out you will have to try it out there realy is no other way. ~~Finally~~ This is a good scanner with many features, okay so it is not the best that you can get but if you want the best scans then you are looking at spending a lot of money. This is a very useful scanner for use at home or in a small business. The only problem with this scanner is that it is not cheap, at £369 it is a lot more expensive than the cheapest models on the market.
