IBM ADFJust as important, the ADF Color Scanner will make your documents and images look their best. It provides high-resolution scanning at up to 1,200 dots per inch and supports up to 16 million colors. Included photo-editing software lets you edit digital images, and the Scanner's TWAIN-compliant driver lets you use the ADF Color Scanner with virtually all Windows image-editing applications. The ADF Color Scanner does a lot more than scan documents and photos. Just connect the ADF Scanner to an IBM-compatible PC, a non-dot-matrix printer, and a fax modem and it will actually function as a plain-paper fax machine and copier. If you have a color printer, you can even copy in color. The IBM Color Scanner lets you access each of these capabilities with the click of a mouse. Only an industry leader like IBM could put so much function and value in such a small package. More IBM scanners

Fujitsu Scansnap S300M
Neat, small, good results
A bit slow, Mac version is highly priced
Epson Perfection 2400 Photo
Reliable; worked first time. Painless recognition / set-up., High Quality; fast. Noticeably faster if set-up properly. Please note that it is not crazily fast, like many, for instance, Fujitsu scanners.
Very few disadvantages in comparison to similar units of this price / spec (i.e. if comparing like with like)Perhaps Epson Smart Panel is a little clumsy (although novices will benefit from this, so it is understandable why Epson opted for this system)
Iris Irispen Executive
A real time saving device
Quite old technology
