I have a desk top scanner but whished to try out a portable one for when out with work. I have some small pictures to scan. So tried this portable scanner. The first thing to note right away is when using this scanner and I would suspect any portable one. That care needs to be taken when actually scanning. Too quick and the image will not be as good as like, plus speed may mean that the item being scanned will move. Too slow and the scan looks uneven. It look a while to learn how to scan, my tip is to hold down item to be scanned with left hand and with a steady right hand draw down the scanner... not too quick or too slow!
I have also learnt to scan 2 or 3 times and check out the best picture before down loading it. Always taking care not to move the scanner sideways or angle it as the image becomes uneven/distorted and the straight lines can become bent.
Now learnt this - this portable, handheld scanner does give great result! Small enough to carry in a bag, saves me hours at home.
This scanner will scan everything from a Black and White text document with a table, for example, to a glossy colour picture page, the resulting picture is fairly quite good... perhaps not up to desk top scanner quality and as I have said above the slower the scan the better the picture.
There is also some reader OCR software included - but I have found this not to be great, with many words lost or wrong. But for what I want - scanning pictures and the odd text it has been a great buy.
An extra is that I sell extra stamps to my collection on line. I can now pop the stamps for sale on a plastic covered stock card - scan as above and place the picture on line. Quicker than using my desk top scanner and I can do this any time!
The battery life is good, one charge lasts all day and more if scanning says two or three times an hour. The instuctions are clear and easy to follow.
