Minolta Dimage Scan Elite 5400 ... the details of a 35mm film frame. The amount of data you can obtain is astounding. An image scanned at maximum resolution can be enlarged to the equivalent of an A1-size printout at a high-quality inkjet setting (200dpi). And for A4-size output, print quality exceeds 600dpi.

To maximize the performance of its 3-line CCD sensor, the DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 features sophisticated new optics from Minolta. The lens incorporated in the scanner has 8 elements in 4 groups.

Higher resolution means greater detail - and sometimes, even details you don't want to see. To suppress the visibility of film grain, the DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 is equipped with Minolta's Grain Dissolver technology, a hardware-based solution that is conveniently fast. Grain Dissolver can be turned on or off as you please. It is automatically activated when you use Digital ICE, and helps improve results with scratch and dust removal.

Random noise may appear in a digital image if the film original has significant dark areas. But because the DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 is able to sample your film 2, 4, 8 or 16 times, it can gather the data it needs to produce the clearest scan possible. And this data is considerable. 16-bit A/D conversion enables the scanner to distinguish over 65, 000 hues in each of its three color channels. This feature, together with an extensive 4.8 (computed) dynamic range, ensures that the DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 captures an unmatched degree of shadow area detail.

Rely on either IEEE1394 (FireWire) or USB 2.0 Hi-Speed to get fast overall scan times. USB 2.0 lets you connect or disconnect the scanner whenever you want, and has the added benefit of compatibility with older USB (USB 1.1) interfaces.
