IMPORTANT- If you are in search of a scanner please read this, so you know what not to get.
This is the first scanner I have bought and has probably put me off them for ever. It is the Primax Colorado Direct 9600. I got it bundled with my Computer, that I realise was my biggest mistake. Anything that seems like a bargain and is bundled with some goodies is probably going to be a con.

My first problem was that if I try to scan above its minimum resolution level it freezes and along with that the software also stops responding, making my PC crash.

My second problem was that it sometimes doesn't even scan. I believe that this could be resolved by switching the hardware off then back on. But the only problem is it doesn't have an on/off switch. I have been to their website to update my software and guess what their drivers are not downloadable. (you should read the comments people have written about Primax at www.driverzone.com)
I have even e-mailed them in excess of 15 times, and yes you've guessed it they haven't replied once.

If any one is thinking of buying a scanner PLEASE make sure that it is not manufactured by PRIMAX. If you run into problems then there will be no one to help you because everyone working at primax are unhelpful ZOMBIES. Who don't care about their after sales care.
WARNING- buying a primax scanner is harmful to your wallet as well as your patience, it makes want to do nasty things to their customer care team.

This guy has left the same review twice (it's clear by the wording on the review) so dont be fooled into thinking that two separate people have left bad reviews. I've owned the Primax Colorado Direct 9600 scanner since the late 90's and it hasnt given me any problems (apart from a short time period when my driver corrupted - system problem not scanner problem). I'd recommend it to anybody as it has a very high resolution capability for the time it was released (9600 dpi) and is brilliant for scanning in photos etc to be duplicated on a photo-quality printer. you can adjust the brightness, contrast and the hue of red/green/blue to get the exact effect/image you are looking for. Marvelous!! as you can see from the other responses below, nobody else has had a problem with theirs!

AAAARRRGHHH!! Just bought a bargain scanner from Makro yesterday. Looked at the box after reading your op & you've guessed it, it's a Primax 9600!! I'm just about to set it up so I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed!!

I have had my Primax Colorado Direct 9600 for two and a half years and it's a little gem. I use it almost daily and I haven't had a single problem.

There you go ;{}
