Sacred Heart School / College

I'd go back tomorrow. We had so many laughs, mainly at some very eccentric staff. Remember the Geography Game? Miss Fishwick's rounds on a Monday morning, striking fear into anyone who had forgotten their dinner money, Sr Dooley and her infamous stare and wonderful, wonderful Sr Mackin, a tiny nun who glided round school like she was on roller skates. I'm sure she was over a 100 years old when she taught me Latin! School discos with the boys of St Cuthbert's and then... more

Sacred Heart: Loved every minute (190 words)

It was strict but I loved it! The school took a rough-round-the-edges Geordie girl and gave her a future. Don't get me wrong, I had the best parents in the world and it took a great deal of scrimping and saving to get my uniform and all, but they assured me it was worth it. OK THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO A COMMENT ON "THIS IS LONGISH..." BUT THORT IT WAS SOUNDING MORE LIKE A REVIEW JUS NOT IN DEPTH YET STILL LONG.yeh em wasnt a memba till i read yor review and the person before who rated the school 1 star. Both people before you obviously have no idea of what the school is like now god nos how many years ago they attended sacred heart. This year sacred heart celebrates its 100 years. Although i agree with yor review i do think it is very biased but i can relate to odd things. I think that the school is more like any other comprehension school now than ever. It is really not all that strict anymore, not the way it has been described ...  Read the complete review

As a pupil that left Sacred Heart last year I feel I have more up to date information on the school than some of the other writers (although their comments are true of when I started and most are of now except the discipline is no longer strict nor the environment religious). The school is split into two sites, which is going to change in the next few years. Lower school has really good facilities and discipline although some may consider it to be over-the-top it always seemed to be effective. However, like the rest of the school, it contains some very petty members of staff and is rather inward looking. Most students will probably be happy here and it seems like the ...  Read the complete review

Good grades but old fashioned and out dated (515 words)

This is a hard one. I started Sacred Heart in year 7 after Primary school. It's reputation was fantastic and I really looked forward to going. I ended up staying until the very end, before going on to university. As a strict and disciplined establishment, the school gets ten out of ten. That's why they have such a high exam success. Dont be fooled though. Pupils are frightened of most teachers. They are hard and concerned by their own importance. If you are a strict catholic they will love you - because the whole school is based on the RC Church. If you're highly intelligent you will be loved because you are the ones that get the good grades. Sacred Heart, Fenham (134 words)

Since there appear to be no opinions here I will oblige. I left Sacred Heart many years ago having stayed on to do my A-levels but an old opinion is no doubt better than none at all. Some people worry about going to a single sex school but I think it was helpful to have a boy-free environment in the classroom and the school's results certainly reflect that. As I said I stayed on in Sixth form which was not such a good idea, although I did well and easily got into university I hated it by the end, mainly because we were still treated as kids, had to wear a hideous uniform and were squashed into a tatty mobile classroom as our common room. I would advise a sixth form ..  Read the complete review
