It was strict but I loved it! The school took a rough-round-the-edges Geordie girl and gave her a future. Don't get me wrong, I had the best parents in the world and it took a great deal of scrimping and saving to get my uniform and all, but they assured me it was worth it.
I look back on those days with great affection and thank God I passed my 11-plus. I'd go back tomorrow.
We had so many laughs, mainly at some very eccentric staff. Remember the Geography Game? Miss Fishwick's rounds on a Monday morning, striking fear into anyone who had forgotten their dinner money, Sr Dooley and her infamous stare and wonderful, wonderful Sr Mackin, a tiny nun who glided round school like she was on roller skates. I'm sure she was over a 100 years old when she taught me Latin!
School discos with the boys of St Cuthbert's and then more trendily, St Mary's Tech....the rivalry with La Sagesse.

They say that school days are the best days of your life, well mine certainly came close.
