“ The Grimsby Institute is one of the largest education providers in North East Lincolnshire, whose aim is to offer a learning environment which is second to none. „
Hopefully, the building of a new block with new facilities will transform Grimsby Institute from being a run-down college and make it a semi-decent university. There's a long way to go, however, before it becomes a realistic choice for aspirational students above FE level. I took my degree there, and while it says on it that I attained my qualification from Hull University, nothing could be further from the truth. The staff are largely well-meaning and competent, but the environment for both lecturers and HE students is run-down, noisy and mostly caters for noisy, rowdy teenagers in tracksuits, who seem to spend their entire days playing pool. It's not a very pleasant place to study because of the constant noise and crowds (often centred in the library, of all places), and secondary reading is thin on the ground.
The Grimsby Institute for Further & Higher Education (Or GIFHE for short) is a large college located at Nuns Corner, Grimsby. Its aim is to become a world class provider of education & to eventually gain University status. This may accelerate once the new college building is built within the next few years, which will greatly increase the student capacity & quality of the facilities.
The place is vibrant & modern. Courses are provided from GCSE level to all the way to Masters Degrees, although the provision of more degree courses is in the early stages of implementation. Part time courses are also provided for new career paths and hobbies. The level of teaching is high, and the tutors are very helpful.
The facilities are excellent. The college has a main eatery which serves your usual cafe food, with various pods & places to order different types of food, such as a Jacket Potato station or a Panini Station. The i-Bar is a more laid back cafe with bar, and is a great place to sip coffee & play pool.
I've not had much experience with the sports facilities or some other restaurants/coffee bars located on campus, but everything seems in order. I'm attending an Access to HE course and enjoying it so far.
Centrally located in Grimsby town, the Institute offers students easy access to all local facilities. The majority of accommodation is within walking distance of the campus and students find that the cheap living costs in Grimsby are a great financial bonus. The Grimsby Institute offers a wide and expanding range of education and training programmes at all levels through to degrees and post graduate qualifications. There are three libraries with IT access, online archives and group work areas. Teaching staff have excellent academic and industrial backgrounds and the Institute is proud of its links with various industries on a national and international level. The Grimsby Institute has its own professional nursing staff on campus and provides to name but a few counseling, childcare, and financial advice services for students.
