Watford Grammar School for boys is a comprehensive state school in North-West London, in Watford. It boasts 300 years of history and obtains some of the highest grades in the country, in regards to GCSE and A level Results. It has a sister school for girls called Watford Grammar School for girls.
The school is situated very close to Cassiobury park, and about a 5 minute walk from the Watford Metropolitan Line Station. It is also about 20 minutes from Watford town centre, making it high accessible to students, teachers and parents.
The site itself boasts a historic 120m long main block, which contains the maths, history, geography, RS, Classics, Latin and languages departments. Opposite this, is the English Block. Classrooms in both these buildings are typical, and holds up to 30 students, and fitted with interactive whiteboards.
Further from the main block, the Science block can be found, having 3 floors, one per science (chemistry, physics and biology). The labs are fully fitted with interactive whiteboards, and each table contains a sink, and gas taps. The block has some of the best equipment for experiments and the range that are performed and demonstrated are fantastic.
Next to the science block is the Sports hall, with 4 large changing rooms, each with a shower, A large 3 badminton court sized sports hall, fitted with basketball hoops and other equipment. There is also a new fitness suite, with state of the art equipment, and also a dance studio, and classroom. This block is open to the public, and even has disabled access. One can join the club and use the gym and dance studio. There is also a large 4 tennis court sized astroturf.
To the other side of the science block is the technology department and the economics section. Lots of resources has been pooled into the technology and arts, and resources are bountiful. Students rarely are required to purchase their own materials, as most of it is provided. In economics, the classrooms are spacious and fitted with interactive whiteboards.
The latest addition to the school is the Music Block. Through the large open foyer, is the auditorium. Below this, are 5 practice rooms open to students, a recording studio and two classrooms with computers containing music software. On the second floor is the Watford School of Music department, which is public, and above that are rooms for music lessons.
Teacherwise, the English Department has to be the best department boasting many teachers with high qualifications, especially Ms Brogan, who is a privelige to have. However, the Biology department is currently lacking. Teachers are rude, abrasive and unhelpful, apart from Ms Rothbart, who actually tries.
The whole school is extremely well managed and as you can see the amount of money spent on resources is fantastic. It hosts many public events such as drama performances, music concerts and so on. There are also many opportunities for school trips!
There is an open day every year in september for prospect students. For entry into Year 7, a written exam is conducted, and for 6th form, you need to acquire 6 B grades. It has been great studying here and the facilities are fantastic.
Summary: A great school and had a great time and hopefully good grades
