West Midlands in generalNewest Review: ... of Shrewsbury School's buildings (with the exception of the dining hall and the Lyle buildings, which are very 60's and disastrous). The actual site itself has a remarkable location. It overlooks the town and the river Severn, being on top of a small hill, and is out of the way yet only 5 minutes walk from town. The headmaster is Jeremy Golding, an ex-housemaster at the school and a sucessful headmaster at a number of school's before he took over from Ted Maidment last summer. He seems good enough and should pass the test of time. THE FACILITIES Shrewsbury is not a leading light in the facilities standings but it certai... more |

I have attended Shrewsbury School for 4 1/2 years and thought I'd say a few words about it for people who might be interested in sending their children here. THE SCHOOL Shrewsbury is a traditional all boys school that was founded in 1562 by King Edward. Oridinally it was situated in the town but in the 1800's that site became too small and the school was moved about a mile away to its present site. There are just under 700 pupils in 9 boarding houses and 2 day houses. The school site is beautiful - all the buildings and boarding houses are spread around the edge of the campus, leaving big expanses of land in the middle for games pitches. The ... When I first went to this school in year 7, I that it was going to be a great school with money and a school that was really going somewhere. As I soon realised, it wasn't as good as it was cracked up to be. KES boys are seen as 'posh little boys' who NEVER dont behave and this is how they are expected to act. You have to pass a test to get into KES so the people there are bright however, there isnt a behaviour test. They dont even know you when they choose you. They just look at your test mark. The amount of people who complain about being pushed in front of in a que or not having a door held open for them is rediculous! The new headmaster there now, Mr. ... Read the complete review

GENERAL (EXPERIENCE FROM '97-'99) I was in the 6th form only house called Stanley. This house, as one would assume, caters for girls aged 16-18 in their A-level years only. I had a wonderful time here and would recommended this school to any one as long as they wanted to be there. I was only there for 2 years but my friends who had been there longer, felt differently to me. I suppose it would be quite difficult to keep any young adult happy in the same place for 5 years, no matter how hard one tried. TEACHING As far as teaching standards go, Rugby is excellent, for £15000 a year, this is expected! Most are very patient and will not give up on a ... Read the complete review
