Christmas Gift Ideas for Men

Advantages: Keep it simple
Disadvantages: None for me!
Christmas is coming around extremely quickly (again), and it is that time of year now when most people start to think about what they are going to buy for loved ones.
I believe it is a common misconception that men are difficult to buy for - maybe it is just the females that think this, but as a male myself I never struggle to think of presents for my dad and brother, however my mum and wife always cause me problems.
So in an attempt to help out anyone who struggles to think of gift ideas for men, this is my take on it, and more specifically this is the sort of thing that I would love to receive this year.
I believe that men like 3 types of presents best:
1. Novelty or gadget style presents.
2. Simple basic gifts that saves them having to go out and purchase basic things for themselves.
3. Alcohol related gifts.
For my category 1 gift selection, I would have to say that I almost always buy my dad and brother a novelty or gadget related gift. This can be anything from something costing less than a pound like a key ring torch (which my dad always loves) up to something getting on for £100 for something like a metal detector which is something that I would love to receive this year. I have mentioned it numerous times to my wife, and so fingers crossed Santa might bring me one this Christmas.
Every Christmas my dad and brother always spend most of Christmas playing with their novelty gifts, and this to me proves that it is probably the best type of gift to get for a bloke. Last Christmas for example my brother received a remote control helicopter from his girlfriend (costing less than £15), and he could not put it down for the rest of the day - he absolutely loved it - so much so that he soon wore the batteries out!
Category 2 would include the obvious basics such as aftershave, deodorant sets, socks, and pants. Yes that's right, I am always happy to receive these types of gifts, as it saves me going out and buying them myself. I might not be jumping round the room as I open it up, but I'm content that it is a useful and practical present that will get plenty of use.
For me this year this category would also include any bits of gear for my latest hobby, which is running. I only have a basic pair of running trainers, 1 T shirt and 1 pair of shorts, and so anything like a High visibility running top, or hat, or even some running ankle socks would be perfect for me this year.
The third category of types of presents for men is another that my dad and brother regularly receive from me. I often get my dad a Stilton and port set for Christmas which he always seems pleased with. For my brother I typically get him a drinking game, which kind of combines the alcoholic category with the novelty category, and also acts as useful activity to play with as a group on Christmas night. Other ideas in this category could include a hip flask, a bottle of spirit, or a gift set, containing a few miniature bottles, and a glass. Last year I received a bottle of Jack Daniels from my mother and father in law, and it was greatly appreciated.
Again I personally would be very happy to receive anything like this - even something like a box of lager will be appreciated by most blokes that I know, and certainly will not sit hidden away in a cupboard un-used!
Hopefully this has been of some use to some people, and maybe has prompted a few ideas, and if my wife ever happens along this review I would be very pleased indeed.
Basically in my view, men like a gift that is either very practical, or will be very handy for them, or that is a novelty and a bit a fun.
Thanks for reading.
