PRIMEPOWER 400 Solaris rack servers are independent 10U-high departmental servers providing an exceptional price/performance ratio. They conform to the SPARC V9 processor architecture, are certified for Oracle8i and compatible with Sun Catalyst. What's more, the PRIMEPOWER servers offer redundancy, a feature usually only encountered in larger mainframe systems. The PRIMEPOWER 400 models are scalable, and can be upgraded with ease to four CPUs and 16 GB of main memory. These rack models feature a dual-UPA crossbar technology for optimum performance. Dual CPUs can therefore be configured so that each has its own UPA, main memory and I/O bus. Compared with single technology, this architecture achieves a substantial linear increase in overall performance for each CPU added. The 600MHz SPARC64 GP processor delivers excellent CPU performance as well as outstanding transaction performance per clock cycle. Thanks to the SPARC64 GP architecture it also boasts additional capabilities over the competition and represents a first-rate basis for reliable operation.

The SPARC64 GP processor uses the ECC code for the L1 and L2 cache and all data paths. These chip caches and TLB arrays are protected by ECC code / parity. The SPARC64 GP processor also features 64- bit virtual addressing and supports page sizes up to 4 GB. A PRIMEPOWER 400 rack model can accommodate up to 6 hard disk drives internally. Optional internal magnetic tape cartridge systems and other external high-capacity storage devices can be added without problems. The RAS features (Reliability, Availability, Serviceability) include the comprehensive Fujitsu Siemens Computers monitoring system, as well as hot-swap" functions for mirrored hard disks, redundant power supplies and fans.
