In turn, this can translate into higher server availability. In addition to the popular and widely used SCSI-2 storage interface, the Model J50 supports the SSA storage interface. SSA disks deliver outstanding performance for transaction-intensive applications and offer redundancy features to keep your data safe. Good commercial performance requires efficiency as well as processor speed. To help break down typical performance bottlenecks, the Model J50 server uses mainframe-class technology consisting of a non-blocking data crossbar switch and robust memory subsystem bandwidth of up to 1.8GB/second that helps speed memory-to-processor interaction. This balanced system design helps allow the efficient sharing of resources and streamlines the flow of data. To help protect your business-critical enterprise operations, the Model J50 server has IBM's SystemGuard service processor built in. This internal watchdog continuously monitors the server in local or remote sites and performs routine system service operations, such as powering the system on and off, running service diagnostics, and providing console support. If an error is detected, the service processor attempts to execute the necessary steps to restore the system automatically. If the system is unable to restart itself, SystemGuard can call IBM Service.
