AA like to make out that they offer the best hope for recovery from alcoholism. If you were thinking of going there don't let me put you off, but...... I spent 7 years trying to find a way through AA. The reason I did this is because everyone goes around saying how wonderful they are. If you say "well, I don't think I can do it this way" you just get told to "keep coming back". In the end I got better (ie:stopped drinking and got a life) partly because I packed AA in and saw it for the load of old gobbledygook that it is. A dear friend of mine told me this week that he is an alcoholic. I love him so much, and I desperately want to support him, but I have to say I think the way he is handling things is all wrong. He has tried to break his addiction by withdrawing from everyone who loves and cares for him. He lives his life in fear that one sip will destroy him. But in fact, he is living a half life, turning away from any situation which might make him confront his addiction. He buries himself in work. I must confess that I have been "itching" to write this opinion for about the last couple of weeks, but decided to wait and make it some kind of "landmark", as this will be my 100th opinion on dooyoo since becoming a member in early December last year.
