Advantages: Excellant charity providing help for families and ,especially for abused children

Disadvantages: Its a great shame that children are abused.

If I asked you which Country had the highest rate of child poverty in the EU,you would probably be thinking along the same lines as Me,maybe Euthopia or Rumania.
Would you be as suprised as Me if I said it was infact the UK.I find that very disturbing to hear.

My personal opinion is as follows...
That it just goes to show that We have a government that is totally out of touch with reality.Or if they are in touch with reality they are choosing to ignore it.
They say that children need food of good nutrient value,by means of a healthy diet. All children should eat vegetables, fruit, drink lots of milk, but do they ever stop to really think what the cost of this healthy diet comes too at the end of the day?
After all they dont have to live on the pitance the average British family are expected to live on do they?
But its not only food, its clothing, like school uniforms so your child feels the same as the rest.

I have a family consisting of a mum and Her four children living near Me,The children wear hand me down shoes, that are too big for them. They dont have any school uniforms so are teased by other school children.
Their Mum told Me that after paying for rent and other household bills She is left with £35 to feed and clothe Her family. This is nowhere near enough.

The biggest let down for Me was the minimum wage announcement,it was appaling and does little to help the majority of people in this country,as some could actually be worse off if their employer decided to drop their rates down to the minimum wage.

But poverty does not excuse child abuse, just because you are poor that does not give you the right to starve, beat, physically or sexually abuse your child.
I dont believe that if moneys that tight,if you are unemployed or a struggling single parent that you will be driven to abusing you own child.
It is a weak, pathetic excuse that is unacceptable.

Barnados........www.barnardos.co.uk

In
1870,Dr.Thomas John Barnado opened His first home in Londons poverty striken East End,the work continues to this present day.
Barnardos not only helps families living in poverty and abused children but also deals teenage pregnancies.
Their major interest is in helping children,to deal with their horrific and difficult experiences in their early years to help become emotionally-balanced adults with a view to a positive future.

They are currently working with more than 50,000 children, young people and also their families through over three hundred different services in homes, schools and local communities.

An interesting fact that I didnt know is they no longer run orphanages or large scale childcare facilities.
Thats what We mostly associated them with years ago,now thats not so.

In the latest news section.....
Barnardo's have launched a millennium volunteer programme, where they currently want people between the age of sixteen-twenty four to become involved in IT,retail, fundraising or childrens service projects.
All they ask is that you can give a minimum of one hundred hours a year of your time,in return they can offer you a range of activities to suit your interests.

They believe that prisons are not the right place for children.
They are challenging the government to reduce the amount of young people being sent to prison, believing that community based sentences for young offenders will have more effect and reduce re-offending.

Failure to tackle child poverty is costing the uk tax payer millions in lost money and human potiential.
Over four million children in the uk,actually live in poverty.
Thats an awful lot of children isnt it?

Barnados today believe that a child should be brought up with their own families rather than in an institution.Obviously where ever that is possible, they offer help and guidance to the whole family,to try to make it work.
If that fails they wil
l help to find suitable fostering or adoption families.

They are commited to helping children leaving care to become independant, teaching them basic social skills, such as learning to cook and how to budget.Enabling them to develop social skills and also supporting them when they have their own home.

Facts and figures show that they need 1.5 million pounds a week to continue their great work.
They employ over 5,000 full and partime staff and have 427,000 volunteers to help run childcare products, shops and fundraising events.

In the resources section there are press releases one in particular is the recent "wonderland"case, which shocked and outraged all children's charities.
This is the case where seven men were found guilty of possessing 750,000 images of child pornography and 1800 hours of video footage, showing child pornography of children as young as under two years.

The sentences these evil creatures recieved made a mockery of the system once again.
Last year a new legislation was introduced to give a maximum sentence of ten years instead of the previous three years for possession of child pornography.
The childrens charities were outraged they believe that harsher sentencing can only prove to be a deterrent if it is implemented. The leniency given in the above case seems to say that this kind of child sex abuse is acceptable in todays society.

What a disturbing thought that is,with sentences like a year, you can half that for good behaviour and in six months time they will be out to continue their perverted ways once more.

Would the judge have given these pathetic sentences if it was pictures and footage of His own children?say no more.......
The frustration that these charities must feel in trying to stop child abuse, must be so intense when things like this happen, its like a slap in the face isnt it?

Contained on the site are some case Histories about abused childr
en,it is enough to bring a tear to any decent persons eye.
I truely wish there was no such thing as child abuse,We,the public dont realise the full extent of what really goes on,unless We are confronted with these horror stories in the papers and on the news.
Childrens charities are vital in helping to prevent child abuse of any kind but for every case they help there are numerous other cases going undetected.

If you would like to send a donation to help this brilliant work continue, there are various ways you can do this.

By a single donation by cheque or Charities Aid Foundation voucher.
Gift Aid scheme provides tax relief on Donations made by any uk tax payer.Just send your Donation to Barnados,in return you will be sent a certificate to sign to enable Barnados to claim back the tax from the Inland Revenue.

If you want to make regular payments you can donate by standing order through your bank.

Deed of covenant or even Legacies.Which is leaving them money from your will.
A good thing to know is that Legacies left to charities are free from inheritance tax.
All the information you need if you want to donate is supplied on this site.

I find this a sad subject that will always exist somewhere unfortunately.

I just thank god that My own four children are safe with Me and that I am able to protect them the from a life of abuse.
Each night when they are asleep I creep in to their rooms, kiss them good night and feel a great sense of relief that they are safe, happy and experiencing real love.I just wish it could be that way for every child.

Children are precious they should be treasured not abused........
