Advantages: Good quick reliable service. Good products
Disadvantages: Uploading can take a while
I was introduced to Bonusprint a few years ago by my friend, after I must have been complaining about having to take my memory card into Boots to get my pics developed and then go back to collect my pics... you know the drill. So she suggested I upload them online and they'll just get delivered to your door, so of course I gave it a go.
The website (www.bonusprint.co.uk) is pretty easy to navigate around with tabs across the top labelled with all the different services they provide - digital photos, photogifts, photobooks, photocards, calendars, film processing, card gallery & web album.
If you click on digital photos tab, you can then find a comprehensive list of sizes available & prices. For the standard 6x4 (or 4 x 5.3 because it's digital) they start at 10p a print for the 1st 149, then the price drops to 7p if you order between 150-249 prints, then anything above 250 prints is just 5p a print. Anyway, it lists the prices for all the different sizes, including digital, conventional & traditional. It even states that delivery is £1.99 on this price list, and I think that stays the same no matter how many prints you order. I have used other sites where you don't find out the delivery cost until you check-out, and then you know why because it's unbelievably high!
If you do decide to go ahead and use them for your photos, you will have to download some of their software, which does not take very long, and I don't think it takes up much room on your hard drive.
I have always been extremely happy with the quality of the photos I have received from Bonusprint, and they have always arrived on my doorstep, in a cardboard wallet within a couple of days, which I think is great. The only downside to ordering your prints online is that you have to (obviously) upload your pics, and depending on the speed of your internet connection, this can take some time! But I tend to just select the ones I want, then go off and do something else while it's uploading.
I have also used many of their other services which I have been pleased with:
I made my brother a desktop calendar which is where you can select photos for each month, (I chose pictures of his children) and these are quite high quality and I think my brother was pretty impressed - it makes for a more personal gift I think.
I made a photobook of our recent trip to Lanzarote for my other brother and his girlfriend, as a memento for them of our good times. I chose one of the cheaper options which was quite flimsy but still a good gift and they loved it. You can insert as many photos as you want and rearrange & resize them, and also insert little captions so it can even become a little story of your adventures. The more expensive ones are a lot more high quality than the one I ordered and I think they would make great wedding albums.
I have also ordered a couple of canvas prints from there which are rather expensive. Prices start at £29 (if you order 4 or more) for the 8 x 10.6 size, which is the size I ordered, and to be honest, although the quality was great, I think this size was a bit small to get the effect of a canvas print, so I felt I wasted my money there. To get the benefits from the canvas prints you would have to go a lot larger than that (in my opinion), and the prices go right up to £175, way above my budget!
I've also done the fridge magnet thing and the photo cards as well which are all very nice. There are many other photo gifts you can have a go at too such as mousemats, mugs, keyrings, cushions, bags etc... the list goes on.
Everything is set out really clearly on the website and delivery prices are different for each different item, but it is all clearly marked up so you know exactly what you will be spending before you commit to buy!
The other good thing about Bonusprint is that if you sign up with your email address (which I did) then you will receive regular emails with discounts and offers available to returning customers. I have quite a few 8 x 10 prints in my house which I have had developed for free, all I've had to pay for is delivery.
So all in all Bonusprint gets a gold star from me. I'll admit I've tried other photo websites (usually when they have promotions going on) but I always find myself returning to Bonusprint because I've always had good service and I know they are a company I can trust.
Summary: Online photoprocessing at it's best
