Advantages: They are convenient and on the High Street

Disadvantages: Quality isn't necessarily up to scratch

I have used Boots in the past for their convenience and for their pricing not being too bad but a couple of things that have happened to my photos done by them have changed my view on whether to use them or not.

The first occasion was regarding some photos of a trip to the States. We went to Bryce Canyon, which for those who don't know, has very bright orangy/red rock, etc. Having got our prints back we were disappointed to find some printing faults on one of the films so took it back to be reprinted and Boots were happy to oblige in doing this. However, the new prints we got back were nothing like what we had from our other films. The colour was so much brighter and true to the real landscape that we questioned all of the other prints. We had orginally thought the 'faded' look of the colours was down to the film but getting the new prints back proved to us it was actually a printing fault.

My second bad experience was more recent and involved using their colour slide film. Processing costs are included in the price of the film, so I duely sent off my film to be processed and awaited my mounted slides. I was excited when they arrived, but this didn't last long. After going through several of them I realised they had not sent me my slides but someone elses. I rang my local Boots to find out who I should contact and what I should do. They didn't know but took my details and said they'd phone me back by the end of the day to let me know - no phone call. It took a while to sort out but eventually it was and I was sent my own slides. To give them some respect where it's due, they did send me another slide film in compensation for the mishap, not sure if I would be quick to take it to them though.

It is a big Boots so they have all of the developing equipment there and do it 'in house'. However, all slide film is sent away to Boots (not Kodak as far as I'm aware as they have a Boots number for any problems) as you get the envelope with the film.

Did they print your photos in the store in their own mini-lab or send them off to be printed? Some stores use Kodak as the external printers and a lot of the time the problem is created by them although Boots do take the blame and pay out any compensation from their own profits.

Shame you had a bad experience, my photos have always been fine - so far!! :)
