Advantages: counts money quick

Disadvantages: percentage of money kept

If your cashflow is low and you have plenty of 1p's and 2p's hiding down the back of your settee, or weighing down your purse that you are too embarrased to take to the local shop in a carrier bag to buy the items you want then the coinstar machine is for you. It can be found in the front of most supermarkets. Before using it for the first time, I used to see the machines in the bus stations and in the front of supermarket and think what is that. I was low on money one time and desperately in need of some cash and there was no way I was going with a bag of 1p's to the shop to stand and watch the person at the till count out my pennies and the people behind me look at me in disgust.
So I shoved all the pennies I could find in a few carrier bags and headed down to the sainburies and was almost able to do £10 worth of shopping with my hidden booty. I now have a jar where I keep my coins for rainy days. Emptying the coins out my carrier bag was a little embarassing. But the machine counted them quick enough for anyone to realise I was there.
That day the coinstar saved my life.

Summary: Brilliant machine for getting rid of unwanted coins

I wouldn't pay anyone commission to take my money away, but if any of you need to get rid of your coins then you're most welcome to post them through my letterbox...!

An interesting idea, but not for me.

I have always taken my loose change to the bank, who will convert the coins or pay them into my account for no commission at all - which is a much better deal if your cashflow really is that tight (I beleive coinstar's commission is something like 7 or 8%?).

am I mean? I would rather count it myself then pay their high commission.
