Advantages: None

Disadvantages: No customer service, arrogant staff, insulted me

I had a terrible experience with Jessops. Enough for me to vote with my feet and never go in any of their shops again, and to tell everyone how bad they are.

I left a picture to be developed and pre-paid. It was a scan of picture of my wedding picture that a friend of the family took. We got married 10 years ago in a small village in France.
2 days later when I came to collect the lad in charge look at the picture and say: "Is it your son's wedding?"... I'm only 35...

He continues: "Do you have the copyright for that image". I replied "Are you kidding me?" I explained the situation.
He says "You need to have the copyright or we will be fined". I reply: "by whom? Ok le'ts say I have the copy right".

He says "Then I need the see written proof of it". I reply "It was 10 years ago in France, how do you expect me to have a written proof of something that doesn't exist?"
He says "Then I won't give you the picture". I reply "then refund me and give me your name".

He says "No and no". !!!
I felt like I was living in a kafka novel. I replied "I'm going to take the pictures that I've paid for, and the receipt and walk away".

Then he shouted in front of all his customers "COPYRIGHT THEFT ! COPYRIGHT THEFT! I WILL SEND YOU THE POLICE" ... for a 10 years old wedding picture taken in a foreigh country by a friend of mine. I never felt so ashamed in my life.
The shop was the one in Oxford, Saint Ebbes. Highly NOT recommended except if you have a sadistic need of being insulted by a yound idiot.

Summary: Do not shop from them unless you have some sadistic need of being insulted

Obviously the situation was handled poorly, but in his defence he is quite right regarding the copyright issue. As a professional photographer (primarily doing wedding photography) it does bother me that people will often reproduce my images without my consent. The copyright of the image belongs to the photographer and you will need their express permission if you wish to duplicate it. The UKCCS website explains it quite clearly. http://www.copyrightservi ce.co.uk/protect/p16_phot ography_copyright

If it was a picture taken at a wedding, it's not unreasonable to suspect it's a professional images even if that was not the case in this instance. I've always found staff at my local Jessops to be friendly and helpful and I've never had an issue with any member of staff in the many stores I have visited when in need of supplies.
