Advantages: No Brainer, Slimmer Than Ever
Disadvantages: Fatter Than Ever, large outlay, hair loss, hormone changes........
Lighter Life Works - of course it does. You are eating a very small amount of Calories and drinking loads of water. But what about afterwards?!!
I experienced the Lighter Life programme back in 2002/2003 and lost a total of 6 1/2 stone in seven months. I never deviated from the programme ever. I found it easy not having to think about what I was going to eat etc and at the end of it all I had never been slimmer in my adult life. I had an entire new wardrobe of size 10 clothes and swore to myself that I was never going to get 'Big' again after all my effort and financial outlay.
However, I was cold all the time, my hair had fallen out in such huge amounts that I decided to shave the whole lot off and start again and my periods had become very irratic. As soon as I increased my calorie intake (1200 calories) I started to gain weight. I was eating sensible healthy meals (chicken, veg, salad etc) and still gaining weight. As a woman the recommended daily calorie allowance is 2000 calories to maintain weight. I became so upset and angered by the fact I was gaining weight whilst eating good healthy food that I started adding my old comfort food of chips and breads and cakes. I still wasn't eating excessively but a year after stopping Lighter Life I was 8 (yes that's right 8) stone heavier.
I know there are some who have a complete success story on this programme and well done to them but it's not for everyone and it is costly.
People talk about the body going into starvation mode and holding onto everything once you start eating conventional food again (it apparently stores the energy in case of future famine!!). I don't know if that is what happened to me or if my metabolism was low after the diet who knows.
Sometimes I am tempted to do the programme again because I found it easy and it was quick but then I have a reality check and snap out of It :)
Whatever you decide, be aware of the pitfalls (physically, emotionally and financially) and good luck on whatever choice you make on your weight loss journey.
Summary: Be Fully Informed

- 03/03/09 Did you do Route To Management - this is an essential part of lighterlife which allows you to gradually reintroduce food, build up a healthy eating habit and confidence.
If you go back to you're previous eating habits of course you will put the weight back on! Sometimes its not just the food its also the portion size and the snacks in between. |
