Lighter Life has transformed my life - so far I have lost 5 stone and I have never felt better.

For all those saying that the Cambridge Diet, or W8, or ANY of the other programmes is "the same thing" then they could NOT be further from the truth.

Lighter Life is the ONLY weight management programme that helps you to address the emotional issues and behavioural patterns associated with weight gain. Sure, you can get shakes, soups and bars from other programmes, but they just weigh you, give you your food supply and hustle you out the door.

In fact, when I tried the Cambridge diet before I started Lighter Life, my "counseller" was a 17 year old girl who told me she was just "trying to earn a bit of money to go out Friday nights". I'm sorry, but I know for a fact that Lighter Life counsellors are trained for a full 2 years and have an equivalent to a university degree in running weight loss programmes - it was one of the things I asked my counsellor about when I went for an information session. I don't WANT a teenager trying to earn pin money as the person I turn to for support and guidance - I wanted a professional, highly trained and knowledgable person who could really help me change my life for good.

With Lighter Life you get 2 hours of counselling a week and personally, I have found this to be pivotal to my weight loss. Not only do you get all the support and motivation you could possibly want from the other group members, I have found that the counsellor is extremely professional, understanding and knowledgeable - I have learned SO much from her and have learned so much about MYSELF from the counselling sessions. I now understand what my trigger foods are and how to recognise when I'm eating "just for the hell of it" or eating for comfort. The counselling sessions arm you with the tools/knowledge you need to stand back and really address the issues you have had with food and the way you have used food in the past to cope with stressful situations or to alleviate boredom.

I have had so many "lightbulb" moments during my counselling sessions it's been amazing. So many times during the counselling, I have thought to myself "oh my god, I can't believe I used to DO that!" and "oh for god's sake...why didn't I know this about myself before!". I truly believe that with all the information, knowledge and help I have received during my counselling that once I go back to real food, the weight won't go back on - I cannot say the same for any other VLCD where all you do is change your food - but not your eating patterns. I have also found that the counselling has helped me deal with OTHER issues in my life that are not related to weight. Problems that I had in my job and also "family" problems that I didn't know how to deal with have all been resolved with ease using the skills I learned in my counselling sessions.

I cannot recommend Lighter Life enough - I seriously think that it is the BEST weight loss programme out there. You really DO get what you pay for. As far as I am concerned, there is NO point in going on a VLCD if you do not change the way you have used food in the past. If you had bad food habits or ate for comfort or when bored - you cannot change your ways, address your issues and learn how to cope/behave around food if you do not have the counselling that Lighter Life offers. Spending 5 minutes chatting with a counsellor about how your week/month has gone when you are picking up your food supply or getting weighed just ISN'T enough.

If you're dithering about which weight loss programme to choose - then choose the best and go for Lighter Life - you WON'T regret it!!!

Oh, and by the way - if you're worrying about the cost then don't!. What you have to remember is that you are NOT trying to "find £66 a week" you are only having to pay a little more than the amount you would have spent on food in the first place. My counsellor showed me some statistics - which I then went on the internet and checked for myself - which showed that the average person in the UK spends £30.10 a week on food at home and on takeaways. This doesn't include alcohol and doesn't include all the sweets, snacks and crisps etc that you pick up from the corner shop or petrol station.

What you have to realise is that if you are more than 3 stone overweight - then you MUST be eating more than "average". Therefore, if you're eating more than average, which is £30.10 a week then your actual food bill, including food you eat at home as well as take-aways, snacks, sweets and treats is nearer £45 a week. This means you only really need to find an extra £21 a week to do the Lighter Life programme. When I realised this I decided that I was WORTH £21 a week and if I only had to spend an extra £21 a week to get my life back and be the person I wanted to be then there was NO reason not to go for it - and my god - I'm glad I did!!!!

Summary: Lighter Life - the BEST weight loss programme in the UK.
