Advantages: there are none
Disadvantages: long-term health problems, weight gain, a lighter purse
To everyone doing the lighterlife diet be very, very careful. More than 85% of people put their weight back on after the diet (although lighterlife will never admit this). Your body will undergo such a huge change and be under a lot of stress that it's likely that you will be left with health problems, which will make you misserable, unhealthy and ultimately in the long-term fat again.
lighterlife will tell you that all this is nonsense and that the choice and responsibility is with you, but the reason they use the word life in their name is because they know that you will be with them for life constantly trying to lose weight (as it will come back on once you start eating again). It's like selling drugs to addicts, like selling the dream of being skinny to an anorexic - very, very dangerous and munipulative.
if you really want to lose weight in this harsh way then do it with cambridge or w8 - you'll get the same support and exactly the same product (they are all made by the same company) but you are allowed some food, which means it won't throw your delicate and complex body off balance.
I am not part of any other diet company but i have seen lots and lots of ex lighterlife people, all of who were on a high for a while but soon encountered health problems, muscle loss, hair loss and all of them put the weight back on, for some it took just a few months, for others, a few years - but the result and the unhappiness was the same.
i hope you find a new way, for health and for life, good luck
Summary: munipulative, sinister, dangerous

- 24/09/08 As with the other comments I question this person's data sources - are you able / willing to quote them? I've just started Lighter Life (I'm in my 2nd week). Yes, I felt a bit tired in the first week, as the diet is intended to make your body to go into ketosis (a process by which your body basically uses your own fat stores to live). You have to take care to do some exercise - which they DO recommend and encourage in the classes, so that you don't lose muscle mass. Ultimately its down to every person how they use the Programme, but the focus is on Re-educating you to have a different attitude towards food - something I haven't ever experienced with other weight-loss regimes, not to this extent anyway.
I have met many people who have already lost significant weight in the past on this programme. And they HAVE kept it off - for 3...4+ years in some cases. Some people are coming back to the programme for a second time - they admit they went back to their old eating habits, and these are being dealt with in the CBT groups they attend.
For the first time I am dealing with the psychological issues I have with food. Tell me you can get that with the Cambridge diet or even Weightwatchers? Not when I was on them!
You'll see from my pic that I have chosen a weemee of a rather chubby person - I'll change it when I've reached my goal...watch this space!! |

- 23/09/08 i am following the lighter life programme and i am soon to finish my 3 months. I have lost 3.5 stones so far and still have 3 more weigh ins before i finish. I am fitter now than i have ever been in my life and i have much more energy than before i need less sleep and i am much more productive at work. I dont get tired one bit, i used to feel really lethargic in the afternoon. Having tried every diet going this was my last hope, i didnt want to do cambridge as it doesnt give the support you need to deal with emotional issues surrounding food.
The only way you will gain weight after is if like any diet plan you dont learn why you gained weight in the first place and dont change your behaviour when you introduce food again.
If you start at 15st lose 5 stone then start eating like you did before at 15 st THEN OF COURSE YOU WILL GAIN WEIGHT!!!! This is why people put it back on. Duh |

- 23/09/08 I really cannot understand this review. The official figures for maintaining weight loss after LL is that 38% of people are maintaining one year later compared to 2% from other weight loss plans therefore you have been mis advised. Very low calorie diets are a succesful tool for managing obesity and beating bad habits. How can you review something you havent tried? I have been on the plan for a long time and it has completely changed my life. Also you commment that you will be tied to it for 'life' and yes, i hope in years to come i can use all of the skills ive learned to control my weight, and use the support of my counsellor as long as i need to. I understand this plan may not suit everyone but this review is very negative and quite silly actually. Find something better to do with your time and do some research for your next review, thanks Leanne |
