Advantages: quick loss, easy rules
Disadvantages: no food, 14 weeks is a big commitment, the cost
I did Lighterlife before my wedding last year from Jan 08 - July 08. I lost 4.5 stone in that time and went from a size 18 to a size 10.
Now..the truth is, it is hard, it's not a long term quick fix, and yes you do need to adjust your eating habits for life. Its now June 09 and I have gone from 10 stone 10 at my lightest to 12 stone now. BUT - I kept the weight off for 4 months before my wedding, went up to 11 stone 9 (wedding and honeymoon followed by mums 60's and Christmas) and stayed there for a very long time, until a bad patch of getting into bad food habits again very lately has led me to 12 stone.
However, I am still a size 12 and have learnt so much about myself, why I ate and now recognise the triggers and behaviour patterns. Just lately I have simply been too lazy to do anything about my weight but am now ready to tackle the extra stone through healthy eating.
What Lighterlife taught me:
Food is not a substitute for happiness or a medication. It is fuel for the body and although enjoyable, it shouldn't become a drug
There is no need to be scared of being hungry. It is a bearable sensation and I CAN last that extra hour till dinner rather than raiding the biscuit tin. Nothing terrible will happen because I'm peckish!
My stomach has shrunk and not gone back to it's old capacity. When i think about the amount I could fit in it...no wonder I was fat!
It's best to keep exercising and drink lots of water. When you're feeling hungry it could be mistaken thirst.
The best thing about Lighter Life is the Cognitive Behaviour therapy which teaches you to understand why you are overweight. It's almost always because you've eaten too much but there is usually a reason why. This is what helps me now more than any diet. I may have gained but I fell I now have the tools for life to nip it in the bud before it gets really out of hand.
And if you do the diet - make sure you stay for the management plan once the abstinence period is finished. this is wherre I learnt 99% of the good advice. I know I've got the tools but it's up to me now to put them back into practise as I am the one in charge of my body.
Summary: Well worth it but you have to really want it and be able to afford it to the end

- 09/06/09 It sounds like you learnt a lot of positive things from doing this. From some reviews I read on here, a lot of people just seem to treat it as a quick fix or magic bullet - which of course it isn't. |
