Advantages: Simple, Quality advice, Fast weight loss
Disadvantages: Some people can become bored of the same food packs
I am currently on the lighterlife program and have gone down from14st 10lbs to 11st 10 lbs in 8 weeks. The weight loss truly has made a difference to my quality of life and activity level. I no long get backache or painful knees, plus I have a wardrobe full of clothes that now fit me.
The program consists of meal replacement packs that you consume instead of your normal meals. You have 4 a day whenever you want and in between you can drink unlimited amounts of water, soda water, black tea, black coffee, green tea, mint tea or use the lighterlife water flavourers. No alcohol or milk allowed. It does take the meal planning aspect out of weight loss as you purchase your whole weeks supply in one go.
The food packs consist of soup, shakes, bars and porridge. You are only allowed one bar a day as they have a slightly higher carbohydrate content.
When you start you may feel a bit dizzy or hungry for 2 to 3 days but this then stops, all you are experiencing is carbohydrate withdrawal. Once your body has used your energy stores in your liver then you will utilise body fat. Hunger goes and you feel fine. A lot of members say they experience a large surge in energy as well. I did feel more energetic but not to the point of ranting evangelical about it.
The most important thing about the program is the group chats. The groups are all single sex and you really do have a laugh with your other group members. You will find out why you eat to excess which can come as a bit of a surprise. Personally I never thought I had any reasons but now I find I was using food as a treat. Once you understand the triggers and reasons for eating too much you find you can easily dissuading yourself from eating for no good reason. In addition you learn to recognise when you are actually hungry. The skills passed to help manage you weight after you finish the program are fantastic as you realise you don't actually have to live like a monk for the rest of your life.
Weight loss is very quick and this is ideal for the person who just wants to get the fat off and not spend a year hoping they will drop 2lb a week and still keep their willpower. This is the easiest plan I have been on but it is not 'easy'. Like all things there are no miracle pills or potions to help you lose weight but the quick weight loss gives you the boost you need. You will be amazed at your friends and families reactions, and not all of them good strangely. You will learn about that in the classes.
You stay on the 4 meal packs a day until you reach your ideal weight then you have the option of the weight management classes. Here you will slowly introduce regular food back into your diet. By the end of the 13 weeks you will be eating all the foods you are currently eating now, but in a managed way. Naturally the cost drops as you use less food packs.
It costs £66 per week but don't forget you are not buying regular food or alcohol. I have actually saved. This includes all the classes and meal packs, plus once you are a member you are a member for life and can drop in for a chat and advice whenever you want. It's an easy way to lose weight and all the sessions are professionally run by qualified councillors.
Summary: It is a very good plan. If you want quick weight loss with training to keep it off.

- 16/06/09 A nice clear description of the programme here, that I think would help any reader who was seriously considering this diet. Not one I would want to do though! |
