Advantages: The knowledge of experties

Disadvantages: not enough people donating

My dad was diagnosed and died with cancer of the larynx two years ago. The time from diagoses to death was 22 days. It was a very surreal experience for me, something that will stick with me forever. A few handy hints if you are going to go see a consultant for a meeting regarding results of cancer are; always take some one who is not emotionaly connected that is what we did with my dad and they took a few notes that we could look back over becuase we were to emotional at the time of diagnoses. Its also handy to write down a few questions that you want to ask the doctor becuase when you get into the room they all go from your head. Probably the last bit of advice could be consider the worst because we had so many problems when my dad died such as funeral costs and bank accounts, maby look into granting power of attorney to someone to deal with things because even through recovery you dont want to be dealing with bills etc.

It was Macmillan that helped me sort things like this out and even helped with the financial cost of preparing for my dads return to hoem such as a deep clean for spores and new lynin through out. Unfortunatly we didnt get to use this so we donated it all to charity but the charity went further than this. They also piad for half the funeral. They sorted my university concerns and aranged counciling. The macmillan nurses are worth more than any money. This is why i donate to this charity only on a generouse and regular basis.

I know some people ask why dont you just donate to cancer reasearch and my answer is always the same, Cancer is hear and now and if all the people did donate to the research the familys suffering in the mean time wouldnt have any one to turn to. They truly are unsung heros!

Summary: Devinatly worth helping

I am sorry about your father. Macmillan will always have a place in my heart as they looked after my husband and me when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. They really are heroes.
