I wanted to write a review on this charity as I was so impressed with what I have recently heard and seen about them . I had vaguely heard of them and a while ago saw an advertisement in our local press for suitable dogs to train for P.A.T. dogs .Pets as therapy abbreviates nicely to PAT and the animals such as dogs are called ‘Pat dogs ‘The advert was for anyone who thought their dog could become a Pat dog , and whose owner had a little time to spare . I did as many people would and read it ,thinking one of my dogs would be perfect for this , and then immediately forgot about it . Pets as Therapy, or PAT Dogs as it is often refered to was setup in 1983 with the aim to take pets (mostly dogs but some cats too!) on therapeutic visits to hospitals, nursing homes etc. Since that time the scheme has expanded and pets now visit a variety of other places too, including schools,day care centres, military rehab centres, even prisons. Since its inception, some 14,000 dogs have been registered for the scheme, and today there are about 4,000 active PAT Dogs working through out the country, spreading their own unique brand of happiness to over 100,00 people, both young and old.
