Advantages: everything, fun and games

Disadvantages: none

Rainbow guides is the youngest of the guiding sections and is available for girls aged between 5 and 7 (after which they move up to brownie guides). They are not a christian organisation, although sometimes they are linked as one.

Rainbows often meet for around an hour once a week in which they play games, have storeis, make things and do all sorts of other fun activities. They complete challenges called rainbow roundabouts in which they can earn badges to be sewn onto their uniform.

Rainbows can also go on trips, like bowling, or to the pantomime or the local farm, and some units even have special sleepovers!

The uniform used to be a tabard, this has now changed to a polo short and jogging bottoms, although some units do stil use the old tabards. The mascot for rainbows is a little doll called olivia, and the programme features stories about her. Sessions cost a about a pound or two per week but this varies on the different unit running costs.

Summary: perfect for girls aged 5-7.
