Royal Opera House Other Service

Newest Review: ... Royal Ballet School to the opera house. I *productions* As you would expect the Royal Opera Houses productions are almost exclusively Ballet and Opera and they feature some of the leading artists in the world. The resident ballet company- the Royal Ballet is one of the finest in the world and visiting companies such as the Bolshoi Ballet company from Russia are other leading companies. The worlds top opera stars perform regularly, but along side them the Royal Opera House runs a young artists scheme that gives those lucky enough to be part of it a chance to perform in their productions. Accompanying all these productions is one of the wor... more

the Royal Opera House-not just for the rich and posh (889 words)

I have been a fan of the royal opera house since the new building was opened and it is a venue I think everyone should try to visit at least once in their life. *The Building* The building itself is impressive to say the least. Upon approaching it from the front you are greeted with a huge greenhouse like structure( the front of the Paul Hamlyn Hall) and a large imposing entrance. If you prefer a slightly less imposing entrance, the rotating door in the corner of covent garden provides this. Once inside it is everything an opera house should be. Several restaurants and bars providing a wonderful if rather expensive menu and plenty of space for you to ...  Read the complete review

A beautiful building and cheaper than a football ticket (241 words)

The Royal Opera House is situated in London's Covent Garden and is home to the Royal Opera and the Royal Ballet. Rebuilt in 1998 the opera house has not only staged performances by its resident companies but also by many other acclaimed international companies such as the New York City Ballet and the Kirov. The opera house has long been considered a venue only for the rich and elite but ticket prices do not entirely support this stereotype. Tickets for ballet performances range from £4.00 - £60.00 (more for international companies) and my suggestion would be to try and attend mid week when you are likely to be able to grab a more expensive seat than the price you paid ...  Read the complete review

The Royal Opera House in general (484 words)

The Royal Opera House is based in Covent Gardern in London and is home to two major ballet and opera companies - The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera. There are a number of Ballet and Opera performances which take place every year where the companies perform past works right through to newly choreographed performances. The opera house itself was originally constructed in 1732 but in the late 1990s it went under a major reconstruction. I never visited the opera house before this but I think it looks fantastic now mixing the old with the new. The opera house is easy to find with Covent Garden tube, and buses which run along the strand, it's just a ...  Read the complete review

Crowned ReviewCovent Garden - the home of quality opera (651 words)

This is possibly the best place to go to for opera in the United Kingdom, but it is also the most expensive. It's a Victorian theatre, in the traditional horseshoe shape, so if you are sitting at the sides your view is restricted a bit. Also, if you are up the top in the Amphithreatre, not only do you not see the back of the stage, which can mean you miss out on some of the visual aspects of the production, but you start to feel a bit detached from the sound. So if you want the full experience, then you have to sit in the Orchestra Stalls, the Stalls Circle or the Grand Tier, and pay the top price. This can go up to over £200 if you are seeing a ...  Read the complete review

Royal Opera House: Covent Garden Opera House (126 words)

We're fairly new to London but have visited the OH now on 3 occasions and always been delighted with the quality of productions there. Tickets, it is true to say, can be rather pricey but it is possible to obtain discounted tickets online for as little as £20 a ticket. We can also recommend the English National Opera in WC2. Well worth a visit, even if you have not been drawn to opera or ballet in the past, it is a perfect introdroduction to the classics, as we recently discovered my youngest is developing a penchant - anything to coax her away from pop music! A truly special evening out with your partner with a cosy dinner afterwards in one of the many fine ...  Read the complete review
