Advantages: friendly atmosphere, more likely to stick at it, good range of foods to eat

Disadvantages: the fact you have to get weighed by another person but you get used to this

As a member of Slimming World I must say I would recommend it to anyone who feels they need to loose a bit of weight.

Slimming World works on an Original and Green basis.

On Original days the focus is on meat products with them being your free foods that you can eat as much of these foods as you like. You then add your healthy extras such as milk, cheese etc.
On green days the focus is on pasta's, vegetables and the such so you fill your plate with as much 'green' food as you want.

There are foods that are Free on both Original and Green Plans, but you do get 'Syns' I think you get 15 a day but I rarely need more than 5 :o)

It will cost you £10 to join but I think there is a half price promotion on at the moment so it will cost you £5, and then there's a weekly fee of £4.50.
You get given a little pack which contains a few books. The main one being all about the plans mentioned above and your weight managment section in the middle.
The other books tell you about a new plan called Extra Easy but the focus is still mainly on the above 2. I can't comment on the Extra Easy as I have yet to try it, but when I do I will let you know.

I tend to stick mainly to the Green plan as I find this works best for me. I lost 6lb in my first week and then 1-2lbs a week after that (unless I put on and then I usually put on 1/2lb :o( ). I am following the diet with my step mum and I think it helps if you go along with someone as it can be quite daunting that you have to actually go into the class and get weighed in front of loads of people!!! It's actually not that bad when you get over the initial fear, they are really confedential and the only thing that gets mentioned is your weight loss and never your actual weight :o).

My class is held in a church hall but you'll find them pretty much anywhere that they can get a free space for an hour.

I usually go to my class on a Tuesday morning but sometimes have to go on a Wednesday, this class recently changed the way they do things from paper to electronic and I now have a little chip and pin type card that hold all my Slimming World details.....I hate this system as it rarely works :o(. It really is a pain in the neck!!! You end up waiting around for atleast 45 minutes whilst they try and get the system up and running but then be told that it isn't working :o(. My morning class will also be changing to this system very soon to and I hope it works OK for them as otherwise we'll never get weighed.

The thing I like about it though is that because you are getting weighed by someone else each week, you are more likely to stick to it and loose the weight.

You can also purchase the magazine and other books in the class, sometimes they sell the bars too. I have yet to try these as I don't really like oaty bars lol.

When you join your group leader will tell you all about the motivation sessions that are held, these last for about 1 hour and really it's just all of the group sitting around in a circle talking about their weight loss journey......sometimes I stay sometimes I don't, it all depends what kind of week I have had really.

It's definatly worth a try if you find diets hard to stick to, as like I mentioned above your more likely to stick at it when someone else is seeing your weight change every week.

You also get 6 weeks holidays a year, so if you can't make it one week make sure you tell your group leader as otherwise you will end up having to pay double the next week.

There is also a website to keep you on track through the week but in order to access this you will need to get the password each week when you go in to weigh as it changes week to week. It has some good hints and tips on the site and a section called 'my journey' where you can track your weight loss and it comes up on a graph so you can see the difference. It also features a 'syn calculator' so if yoou fancy that nice bit of chocolate cake you can check out the syn value before wolfing it down.

You can find your local classes online by typing in your postcode or check out shops in your local area as I know they advertise quite a lot around here with big posters.

They also offer rewards in the form of fruit baskets to the person who looses the largest amount of weight in a week in my group, I don't know if they are all the same but I find this is a great idea..... you will then be know as Slimmer of the week!!!!

Summary: An overall great way to loose weight and keep it off
