Advantages: it works if you follow it! Unlimited food types!
Disadvantages: expensive, not enough chocolate allowance!
Having followed this for a while, I lost quite a lot of weight, quite quickly. It appealed initially, mainly because the meetings were very close to my house. I hadn't really followed any diets previously, so wasn't really a 'diet junky'. The Slimming World approach though, wasn't too restrictive and I didn't need to change my eating habits a great deal. It is based, loosely, on the principles of food-combination, so you can have, for example, as much meat and fish as you like on one day and vegetables, of course, and then on other days (or if you are a vegetarian!), you can eat as much pasta, rice, potatoes as you like, as well as fruit and vegetables. I was a little sceptical at first, because when they said 'unlimited amounts of X or Y', I really DID eat unlimitied amounts! But to my pleasant surprise, it did actually work, and I lost weight steadily, but, more importantly, even after I finished, and my eating became a little less.. regimented.. I still haven't put the weight back on again. In the end, I stopped because it was too expensive to continue paying each week, and because you have to pay for the weeks which you miss as well. It's still cheaper than Weightwatchers though, which was another consideration. I tended not to stay too long at the meetings, and just go for the weighings, but the atmosphere was always friendly and welcoming. It certainly gave me the incentive to continue with it, when I knew I would be going to a meeting the next week. The only problem was, the meetings near me were held in a pub, which kind of meant all too often I would stop for a drink, either before or after! I'd definitely recommend it as a diet for people who like their food and can't be bothered to count or weigh things, obsessively.
